Who was UW's #1 RB recruit in Myles Gaskin's class? Hmmm?

    Myles Gaskin
Nope, Chris Warren. Why? Because he's more talented than Myles Gaskin. You think you know more than both me and the coaches? You don't. Warren was far and away our top target and he was recruited like our #1 overall recruit in that class and we came damn close to getting him. Yeah cool, Warren got fat in college and also played for a terrible coaching staff. To ignore that as the main factors that caused his draft stock to fall is disingenuous. Warren chose the wrong school. Gaskin chose the perfect school for himself. Had Gaskin gone anywhere else he probably would have gone undrafted. Had Chris Warren chosen UW, he likely would have been drafted higher than the 7th round. To argue otherwise is ludicrous. Our staff doesn't turn high 4-star recruits into 7th round picks.

Yeah, Gaskin was a lazy POS until Pete and his coaching staff got a hold of him.

Gaskin worked harder than anybody on that team, and he probably would have worked harder than most players on any college team. Not saying the coaches had zero impact, but in some cases, there are players made from a different cloth. Credit to the coaches in seeing this quality in Gaskin, which is part of their job. But to diminish the kid's value and hard work by saying it's the coaches that made him that way is disingenuous and pretty damn insulting to Washington's career rushing leader.

When did I diminish his work ethic? Never. I'm sure he would have worked hard no matter what school he went to. My point was that UW was the perfect fit for him as a player, UW is relatively good at developing talent, UW had success during his career, and UW has built up a good reputation with NFL GM's because GM's know UW guys are going to be professionals at the next level. So yeah, with Gaskin being the very last RB selected in his draft class, every single factor was likely a critical factor for his draft stock. Had he gone to a lesser program with a lesser coaching staff, he likely would have gone undrafted, regardless of his work ethic and play making ability. For instance, Gaskin almost chose ASU over UW. Had he gone to ASU he would not have played against Penn State and Ohio State in big bowl games which allowed him to showcase his ability to NFL scouts against quality competition. He had big games against both of those teams.
