Another report recounts an incident in 2018 when a male asylum seeker was detained and taken to a detention center in San Ysidro, California. A stash of redacted documents released to the human rights group after six years of legal tussles uncover more than 160 cases of misconduct and abuse by leading government agencies, notably Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and US Border Patrol. The papers record events between 2016 and 2021 that range from child sexual assault to enforced hunger, threats of rape and brutal detention conditions.
A Honduran asylum seeker reported conditions in the McAllen facility in 2019: “I was there for 10 days sitting, I couldn’t move because it was 67 of us in that cell. We said we needed toilet paper and water and … we reported the animals, the scorpions in there. There were scorpions, ants, ticks, fleas and they would tell us that it was fine, it was because of our own stink of being there 45 days.”
Revealed: documents released after six years of legal tussles uncover over 160 cases of misconduct and abuse

It was happening when we weren't allowing them to flood the nation. Imagine how bad it is when the numbers exceeded 2 million illegals for last year. Allowing it to occur is treason and Biden should be charged.TheKobeStopper said:

Spoiler alert.
Child smugglers are usually not the best of people -
Last 12 months there have more than 2x the amount of single minor encounters at the border vs 2019 and over 3x in single adult encounters. That’s with roughly the same number of border agents.
Read a Huff Po piece from 2014 that estimates between 60-80% of under 18 girls are raped on their journey to the border. Probably a bullshit number, but I don’t write the rules. So unless the cartels have softened, why would we assume that raw volume of people headed to the border doesn’t lead to more rapes? -
I appreciate an actual attempt to explain it.Bob_C said:Last 12 months there have more than 2x the amount of single minor encounters at the border vs 2019 and over 3x in single adult encounters. That’s with roughly the same number of border agents.

I read the Huffpo article and while the links to the studies are dead, I’m willing to concede those numbers. I think we’d all agree there has been some exaggerating of rape statistics but you could cut those numbers in half and it would still be horrible.
But I would point to this part of that article
The assaults are so common that many women and girls take contraceptives beforehand as preventative measures.
So some of them know the risks going in and still choose to try and cross.
My response is let’s make it safer for them to cross. Yours is let’s make it so horrible for those that are desperate to cross that less will try. Hence, the cruelty is the point. -

Discouraging the attempt is kind. Opening the borders and allowing the rapes isn't
Hence your cruel -
TKS just wants oppressed people to have safe passage to the USA, free healthcare for all, free education for all, a living wage for all and LQBTQ rights. I guess that makes him a bad person to you wing nuts.

How does making it safer for them to cross eliminate rapes leading up to them crossing? If it was “safer” wouldn’t even more rapes occur as even more people would be trying? Cruelty would be putting sharks in the Rio Grande.TheKobeStopper said:

This is a pretty consistent disagreement between right and left. When it comes to things like immigration or abortion, the right prefers to be extremely heavy handed, to the point that IMO it crosses into cruel and unusual. The left prefers to acknowledge people are going to do these things and how can we make it safer.
Like that article says, some women were taking contraceptives before leaving. They knew the risk of getting raped was there and they still chose to try. Think about how fucking cruel you’d have to be then to stop them from trying. -
I acknowledge they are people. I do not acknowledge any reason they should be let inTheKobeStopper said:

No country is going to have a border policy where they want to make it 'safer for people to cross'. I'd like to ask any of these progressive types if they have any self awareness at all.

No it isn't. It's a dream of the left: no borders, no religion, no police, no private property, no one works, but somehow everyone magically has all the luxury items they get now from mommy and daddy. John Lennon's song isn't reality.TheKobeStopper said:
