Was Jimmy just lazy?

Apparently he golfs a lot, assuming this info is accurate.CuntWaffle said:I’m trying to figure out why he turned out to be such a shit show. Ever since he was hired the football teams social media presence and recruiting fell off a Cliff. Pete was good at keeping the pipeline prettt full and getting commits somewhat regularly. Lake just seemed like he didn’t want to try. I knew we were fucked when he called Cade Otton a 5 star recruit when he decided to come back.

Its the million dollar question. We will probably never know. My biggest shock was his non existent drive to recruit. I totally bought into his halftime speech at the basketball game. It was all downhill from there.
-
Arrogance seems like the most logical answer.
-
He thought being the big leader would be easy. He thought he was a living, breathing special sauce. He had no idea what it took to lead a complex organization like a P5 football team.
He's a guy who had his ass kissed every step of the way and had no drive to be a great HC. Because he already thought he was a great HC, without proving anything.
He probably actually thought he was bigger than the job, and bigger than UW.
He is that big of an idiot.
Trying and competing and accepting "no" from recruits or criticism from outside the program made him triple down on his own decisions in paranoid/deeply insecure fashion. -
No, Jimmy wasn't lazy, something that could have racist connotations when used in a questionable conjunction with an African American, far from it. If anything Jimmy was overzealous in his coaching approach leading the program. The social media presence doesn't fall directly on him but the UW athletic department as well since they manage a lot of the social media accounts and media relations as we saw with all of the negative Jimmy Lake stories that kept on coming out in the recent days.
Jimmy made a very bad decision by hiring the secretarial assistant to the assistant RB coach from Jacksonville in Jon Donovan, a person no one was looking to hire as an OC at any level, as his OC on UW TE coach Derham Cato's recommendation. Then his seemingly refusal to fire him made a lot of people question his leadership abilities aloud.
Jimmy was one of a very few African American coaches to have a college football head coaching job at the NCAA D1 level and at a power 5 university at that which is a even rarer sight in the NCAA in 2021 https://theundefeated.com/features/even-with-the-recent-push-for-diversity-fewer-black-coaches-getting-top-fbs-head-coaching-jobs/ .
Jimmy should have surrounded himself with a better qualified staff and that is all on him no one else as he had the power to select his staff. Jimmy may well be very well off financially now but he will most likely never be a NCAA D1 head coach again. -
He was handed about as good of a job as you could ask for as a first time HC. A team that had been successful, but not truly elite. Recruiting trending upwards. A solid stable of experienced players. A coaching staff with a mix of holdovers from the previous HC but also spots for him to get his own guys.
All he needed to do was make a couple decent (not even great) coaching hires, pay attention to recruiting, and not be an asshole. I can't even think of someone who fucked up a coaching job as bad as Jimmy did in less than 2 seasons.
To make an analogy, when Jimmy was hired, coaching-wise he was given the ball, first and 10 on the opponent's 30 yard line. Today when he was fired, it was 4th and 35 on his own 45. Jen sent out the punting team -
Jimmy broke the cardinal rule: surrounded himself with yes men and became stagnant. Have to be ahead of the curve and take feedback for how to get better, and rely more on your assistants. And his assistants were hot trash yes men fags

It’s like when you bag a chick that was hot and seemed like a catch and then later on you find out she is annoying and had a weird past and is actually gross. Pretty sure Jimmy just seemed like a catch because of the nice recruits and good performances the other coaches helped engineer around him. His position group was incredible and a false promise. Turned out he just sucked at most the other stuff and should have never had the chance to run the ship.CuntWaffle said:I’m trying to figure out why he turned out to be such a shit show. He was absolutely lazy. He got the job, stopped recruiting and immediately had his agent shopping him to NFL teams. He didn't think he had to work to prove himself at this job and was going to leverage it to go to the league.
He had no clue how hard it was going to be.
Not because he was black. Gilby stopped recruiting just like Jimmy did.
Because they suck. -
I don't think Jimmy ever learned to work hard at coaching or to become accountable for himself. He basically came up in a very nurturing system where CP and Kwiatowski had the entire system in place. He had it very easy coming up a a coach.ChillyDawg said:No, Jimmy wasn't lazy, something that could have racist connotations when used in a questionable conjunction with an African American, far from it. Evidently not a humble guy. Great at recruiting DBs for somebody else's defense, not great at anything else.

Way too many other hungry up and comers out there. Way too many guys like Deon Sanders getting into the action.
Jimmy will be lucky to end up like Dan Hawkins.

Jimmy is like your classical millennial with two years of work experience that has mastered their specific job. Thinks because they know how to do the job that they should be running the department and managing people.
Jimmy doesn’t know how to grind or face adversity. We all saw what happened when he lost his shit on national TV. So yes, he’s entitled, delusional and lazy -
Heard a rumor that he thought they were cake walk their schedule and that his agent was already throwing his name out there in NFL circles as early as June.
-
He probably thought he would kick ass right away with the roster he had, and the recruiting would work on its own off of that. He failed to consider that he’s a shitty evaluator of coaching talent, and it cost him.
-
He's not a Millennial but I agree with the rest.LongDukDong said:Jimmy is like your classical millennial with two years of work experience that has mastered their specific job. Thinks because they know how to do the job that they should be running the department and managing people.

Ehhh, the recruiting seems pretty lazy to me. I didn’t really care at the time and wanted to see some games, but there wasn’t a huge effort put in. He is also responsible for his coaches efforts.ChillyDawg said:No, Jimmy wasn't lazy, something that could have racist connotations when used in a questionable conjunction with an African American, far from it. His staff choices were all awful. -
No he wasn’t just lazy. He was also dumb with his schemes, bad at talent evaluation starting bad players. Overall he sucked.
With recruiting he absolutely was lazy. If the rumors are true, he may have been lazy because he thought he was turning this season into an nfl gig which also cements him as having no self awareness. -
I have tried, but I cannot come up with anything meaningful that could be construed as good during his time as head coach.

I think this is it. I think he really felt that they could recruit just about any player and coach them up and win championships. Why battle the big boys for talent when you can get average guys and make them great?BleachedAnusDawg said:Arrogance seems like the most logical answer.

If this is true. Got to love they way god can really humble a person. Dude got handed a Top 25 program HC job and he just pissed it away.backthepack said:Heard a rumor that he thought they were cake walk their schedule and that his agent was already throwing his name out there in NFL circles as early as June.

Personnel decisions were terrible. He has no eye for talent, at all.
-
Lazy, arrogant, delusional, stubborn. It's actually very impressive how CP was able to keep him in check and get so much out of him.
-
There was this one guy early on who pointed that out. What was his name?
-
Fuckin nfl shit. Jimmy’s nfl fixation always bugged hell outta me.dnc said:

He coached with Pete at UW for 6 years, and at BSU for 2. He was DB coach under Raheem Morris in Tampa Bay for 2 years, but he thought it would be easy? He had no idea what he was getting into? Sounds like bullshit. Maybe he just got peter principled.Kingdome_Urinals said:He thought being the big leader would be easy. He thought he was a living, breathing special sauce. One thing about Jimmy is that he’s never run a large organization on his own prior to being the HC … yes he was DC but I suspect it was more K mentoring Jimmy and Jimmy being the young dumb college grad that thinks he knows everything type situation
Arrogance is the ultimate downfall … it’s the “I’m Jimmy Lake” and everything will work out
I have no question that he would have parlayed UW into a NFL job if he could have … everything about his history suggests that he was massively enamored with the NFL
When your desire to recruit goes away it’s time to head to the NFL
