So we hired a Duck who's professional experience consists of working for the Pac-12 network (LOL) and working for an NBA team full of established superstars that already sells itself. Great

I mean Golden State is a bigger and more valuable franchise/brand than UW sports…kind of a weird take to say the team sells itself…if she was just coming here to manage our social media it would be a step down.

I’m sure the NIL manager role is what piqued her interest. I don’t even know what that job entails or what her responsibilities/authority would be but she is likely good at the networking and promotion aspect of it.
The colleges really don’t know either. My buddy applied for some jobs. He said they are all over hiring sites. He also said they seem to really just want influencer types or people that know how to leverage social media.
Somebody with 7,500 followers, who was working for the Golden State Warriors in SF, is an influencer who knows how to leverage social media? Just fucked but same as it ever was

Social media is all about managing optics via the content you post. The content she's posting makes her look like an indifferent out of touch asshole. Imagine not realizing that publicly lamenting your career direction isn't a good way to kick off a new gig. Seems like a pretty fundamental thing not to be bad at. This already feels like when the Times put that other duck child on the UW beat and his reporting sounded like a Dawgman intern til finally the Times got us Vorel. Way to go Jen you clueless fuckhead.

If she can reel in either an Amazon or a Microsoft, her hiring will instantly be regarded a success. It doesn't take much. MSFT AND AMZN have combined 20 times the market cap of Nike. But can she do it? UW has both these companies headquarters in the backyard to themselves and of course several others like Boeing.
The NIL is still new, so a lot of how it will play out remains to be seen. But I can't believe I still see people gabbing about "reeling in" Amazon and Microsoft or any other F500 company in the Seattle area. What possible incentive could any of these companies have to cough up money for any of these kids? I doubt anyone handling the purse strings of a marketing budget over there could ever justify even $10k going to some nameless husky football player who won't even be in the area in three years (or earlier once our mass portal event occurs).

There's a reason all of the NIL deals you read about involve small franchises or local businesses. They're not money making opportunities. But a passionate booster with his own company to use as a slush fund is more than happy to take that loss if it means directly assisting his alma mater's success. So I would assume whoever we hire as the NIL director is someone who can navigate those waters, has connections to local boosters/businesses, and is comfortable shooting the shit with the kind of boys club network of business owners who would be willing to throw money away for an NIL deal. I have no idea if Ramming is that person or not, but on paper she seems to be a complete mismatch and completely underqualified for what I'd expect this job to entail.
But she was a Buffalo Wild Wings server and a prep chef at UO and it's important UW and future prospects know this. FMFYFE

The only way for this to work is a somewhat local source with regional backing. In other words we needs Doogs at Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, etc... to play the game against uncle Phil, not hire their grad students and #SCODUCK our brains out

So Bellevue Rare Coins, Beacon Plumbing and Ivars are actually the more reasonable targets. This will go well against what Phil Knight has in mind.

UW never had an issue with local support of the program. The Husky Fever era where the logo was everywhere

Question is whether that same effort will go for the players

I can see a scenario where the program is competing against the players for cash

In a hotbed like Bama all the program advertising and tie ins are sold. Players are the only avenue

Nobody knows nothing. I suspect if she wasn't another duck this thread would be shorter

    Look at me RIP her

Also frankly, for a lot of the old, rich, white folk here- if she wasn't so young and female.

One of the biggest attacks seems to be that she isn't starting for two weeks so she must not want the job? Which two weeks is completely standard? Its not her fault UW didn't make this hire 6 months ago.

UW needed to hire someone with a business background and pedigree to walk into a board room with multi millionaires, and convince them to give money to the players. A charasmatic negotiatior with executive successes.

Instead UW hires someone four years removed from college.

    Also a duck

As an old poor white guy I like young females but that may put me in the minority here......

Agree on the timing not being her fault

You're way out of step with what this position is. First of all- the students themselves through agents or representatives are the ones that actually sign the deals. The best thing UW can do is provide a platform for advice and management to students on how to build their brand and provide education and promotion in the local business community. UW is doing similar things as other schools with their Boundless whatever program and partnering with Opendorse.

This scenario of someone from UW making deals in local boardrooms is just totally imaginary.

She did 3 years as Social Media Manager at PAC-12 and 3 years as Social Media Director at Golden State. Read the job listing- it was asking for a Bachelor's degree and three years of experience. If she did a good job with Golden State then she is qualified- I have no idea but nobody else here does either.

yep being old and white agree - but I still think if she worked Hooters rather than BWW she would have a better shot at winning people over

Even if she were to have success at UW and do a good job, she'd LEAVE the moment Oregon or Phil Knight offered her a chance to work for them. Which they would. Because they care.

Ppl leaving is fine because they were successful. More ashamed that the uw athletic dept didn’t catch this and tell her to take it down. Not surprised. They suck.

DoogerMcFarland has ALL the screenshots he needs!

Will be interesting to see how long before they are deleted. In other words, if people at UW athletics are actually on this board.
