Also, Rich Brooks was an OSU grad who coached at Oregon and did a great job at getting to a rose bowl despite a bad start.

Bad start? 17 years. Brooks did a great job considering what he had to work with as far as facilities and financially.

He coached there forever so that's a pretty stupid question.

Brooks coached at Oregon forever because he could beat OSU in the Civil War game. FACT

Overall record in Civil War: 14-3-1.

In his first 11 years as head coach at Oregon, Brooks was 10-0-1 vs. Oregon State.

College football didn’t begin the year you were born.

We didn't really lose much net through the portal.

    Out
    Sirmon
    Garbers
    Jones
    Puka
    McKinney
    Osbourne
    Spiker
    Calvert

    In
    O'Brien
    Martin
    Bookie
    Jackson

So a net loss of 4. Which is obviously not ideal but it's not a huge drain on the talent pool.

The bigger issue is we didn't bring in much blue chip talent in the recruiting class.

Definitely not a huge drain since most of those guys were busts or hadn't done shit yet.
which is why the portaled. Jones was serviceable and Puka could have been good had he been healthy. The rest...meh.
