Given the QB limitations that we have on this roster (we don't really have a QB that has earned the trust to sling the ball around) ... we should be running the ball for a number of reasons.
It will bite us in the ass if we can't figure that out more by the time we play Oregon (and maybe Stanford). It shouldn't bite us in the ass against Arizona or the Cougs.
Taken from an article detailing John Don’s PSU firing...perfectly describes UW’s offense tonight.
“However, none of this is the case with Donovan. Penn State absolutely needed to part ways with him after two years of almost no progress on the offensive side of the ball. While Penn State's offense is still young, it absolutely had the talent to avoid being among the worst offenses in the nation. However, a complete lack of imagination or ability to attack an opponent's obvious weakness, has doomed this offense for two full seasons and cost the team several victories that were nestled firmly in their hands. No matter the frequency and obviousness of Penn State's failures on offense, Donovan seemed dead set in trying the same things over and over again, hoping that different results would magically appear.”
I still liked it more than a Bush Hamdan offense. But yeah, that second half was ugly. The lack of any semblance of a big play or downfield passing game is going to kill us.
Fuck that I'd take Bush back in a heartbeat over that dreckfest.

I wasn't alive to watch football in the 90's but now I feel like I know what it was like. You can't be a good college football team if you are terrified to throw the ball.
Its just pathetic. You aren't beating anyone good with this offense.

The de-evolution of our offense is complete.
I liked that Donovan wasn't afraid to nut up and take the easy yards when we needed them. Too often under Bush we'd be in third and short and pull some low percentage play out of our ass instead of just taking the first down by force. The use of the fullback was a nice touch too.
Now the second half autopilot game plan of Newton between the guards was fucking stupid. And only letting Morris throw downfield 2-3 times all game is a concerning foreshadowing against better teams. If we really are as one-dimensional as we looked last night, then yeah, we're fucking toast.
I honestly don’t get the people freaking out at all.
They had a conservative run first game plan in a game with shitty weather and a completely new QB. It worked. If special teams doesn’t spot the beavs 10 points we aren’t even having this discussion.
And for all of the hand wringing about the defense they gave up 14 points. There clearly is stuff to improve on but I don’t think anyone was under the impression this was anything other than a transition year.

The only thing stopping us was false starts.
It's a five gayme scrimmage season anyway. WGAF
Kill me now
Really? That’s why they were 8 - 16 on 3rd down, did you watch the game? Lol.
The only thing stopping us was our coaches and their exceptionally simplistic and predictable play calls you tardface
