Not sure I'd leave the PNW just to escape Seattle, but Palm Springs or the Carmel Valley would be nice. Santa Fe also.
I have thought about Spokane actually, which is hilarious because 1) I was born there and 2) arrogant teenager DDJ swore never to return to Eastern WA.
I like Spokane. But I think about Bellingham. You've still got the water and you can go either North or South for big city events when you want to.
Bellingham is nutty expensive for what it offers, and politically following Seattle, but without the economic base. Hard pass.
Bellingham is about half the price as Seattle but about twice as liberal (yes it's possible). Gorgeous place to be with access to the best mountain in WA that doesn't get crowds.
But unless you're a burnout or retired, your options are limited.
Ummmm, Bellingham is an absolute liberal SHIT HOLE! Here is why; - They are putting out their own Green New Deal which is forcing homes to be carbon neutral in a few years. This means to build a home you cannot have any fuel other than Electricity in your home. If you sell your home, it must be converted to carbon neutral before a sale can occur. This means all the old pre-50s/60s homes that would be hell to remodel will need to be gutted and updated to electricity. They are stripping the market and getting worse. - They are getting ready for a rent cap, meaning that the rent is set and landlords are forced to be below that. - They are also going to put into affect that landlords must pay all utilities for their renters. - 60%+ of the residents in Bellingham are rentals. - They can't handle their own homeless problem.
Information I have provided is from a Bellingham Real Estate pro.
Don't go to Bellingham, it is trash... plus you have to deal with Canadians being idiots to buy shit from us because their own country is so effing corrupt in their own economy.
It is absolutely beautiful there, but I can't really argue with any of the points you made. I don't mind the progressive vibe, but Bellingham is a bit much for me.
Small ski resort, I think it was. But Bruce dumped millions into Hailey, and thus down the drain. The Mint's in Hailey, Throbber, not Ketchum. But you ain't no Sun Valley Superiority Guy until you've gotten drunk at Galena and driven home in a whiteout.
You got me there.
McCall > Sun Valley, btw.
I prefer the aura of Hemingway's splattered brains that still hangs over Ketchum. Especially while drinking at the Casino.
And Mariel is hot as fuck in person. What a beauty. The cameras don't do her justice.
The Throbbers knees gave out years ago but back when he was the American Franz Klammer, much preferred McCall to Sun Valley - more consistent powder, far less crowded. Way less expensive though money is no object to the Throbber in search of a good time.
Brundage had a long ass run that went forever. Only place the Throbber has visited with a longer ride was Red Mountain in BC.
Plus I’m just fucking with you. But McCall used to be a hidden gem. Shifty two long road so access is miserable. But it ain’t easy driving in to Sun Valley either.
I love Sun Valley ski resort and Ketchum. The lodge is amazing and all the great restaurants help to make it a great experience. I've never heard of McCall. Is it still a great place to ski maybe spend 3 or 4 days at?

In defense of psychodelics.....
Bellingham has always been hippy/counter culture central. The Throbber got interest from them back in the day to repeatedly throw an orange sphere into an orange hoop but that was not the edjumacational experience he was looking for at the time. Just way too far out there on so many levels.
I just moved to Lakewood. Which saddens me as I've moved further away from @PurpleBaze, but I am now closer as the crow flies to @89ute and @RaceBannon . TBH, I don't like my chances. Was happy to learn my state rep and county rep are anti tax conservatives.
Outside the PNW, I'd move to northern Salt Lake, or Temecula. I have my reasons.
Sexual conquests aside, I'd probably end up in West Virginia.
All joking aside, I am taking FRANNY and the missus up to West Virginia in the next few months to start eyeing property for the eventual Wigwam compound. It's beautiful up there. Just axe John Denver. Low taxes. Great gun laws. Unobtrusive government. Scenic beauty. Plenty of meth. I will move to WV eventually. There is no doubt. Virginia going blue really fucked me over. I won't stay here and support it with Orkin tax dollars. Fuck off Virginia.
Don't do it man.
Yes....
VA has gone nutz. Rather deal with the hillbillies...

East WhatCo isn't bad, and the cultural difference between outskirts and Bellingham proper are stark. Bellingham:East Whatcom :: King County:Eastern Washington However, real estate prices driven by Bellingham have creeped farther east in last decade.

Yeah - that'd be about right. Fly into Boise, about a 2 hour drive north into Central Idaho. Tamarack is about 45 miles south of McCall so you could ski there a day, too. I'm just gonna go ahead and say Brundage's snow kicks Sun Valley's ass. It's where the locals go.

IFL Ketchum. Sun Valley is the best cruising mt in the US. Sucks for pow though.
I learned how to fly fish on the Big WOOD River.
Place reminds me of @puppylove_sugarsteel . He loves the Hemingway lifestyle but like Ernest pussed out at the end.
@Swaye do you recall the name of the crick that separates West Virgina from Kentucky, feathered so prominently in the Hatfield's vs McCoy's mini series?

Nope but I plan to live on it and reclaim it for Cherokee Nation.

It's called the Tug River.
Very appropriate. I will claim it for the Cherokee Nation but all of HH can move there and we will just smoke Race's weed all day and make @SECDAWG find pictures of asses like those above to amuse us (boners).

Would love a Shasta View Ranch up north too

It’s too much to overcome and I don’t have enough bandwidth to keep up....
Dime a dozen here, pod...
Seriously. I like her but I quit advertising my community tonight...
The Throbber ain't as good as he once was but he's as good once as he ever was.....
