Donovan was fired after two seasons as Penn State’s offensive coordinator and tight ends coach in 2015. That season, the Nittany Lions finished 126th out of 128 teams nationally in third down conversion percentage (27.57%), 106th in rushing offense (134.15 yards per game), 105th in total offense (348.6 yards per game), 103rd in completion percentage (53.2%), 100th in scoring offense (23.2 points per game) and 99th in red zone touchdown percentage (54.55%).
As the entertainment value wears off, I just don't care. I boldly said a few years back that if Petersen wasn't the guy, then that was it for Husky football for the foreseeable future. Petersen proved not to be the guy, and now here weº are. I was and am right until I am wrong.

No doubt that the Penn State results were awful, and Donovan was apparently not Lake’s first choice. PSU was supposed to lose 40 scholarships between 2013-2017, and be limited to 65 per year during the same period. The sanctions were rescinded such that they got back to the normal 85 in 2015, but in 2014 (Donovan’s first year) they had only 75. In 2015 they leveled up, signing Saquon, Ryan Bates, Juwan Johnson, many other 4-star WRs and OLs. Donovan supposedly recruited Mike Gesicki, from NJ, Mackey award winner, possibly GOAT TE at PSU.
The top-line knock against Donovan was that he was fired after 2 seasons, while fans are now jealous that Oregon is getting Joe Moorhead - who was *fired from Miss State after two seasons*.

I already miss Pete. We wouldn’t have struck out this badly with him. His offense still sucked, but we hired a coordinator that has had no success as a coordinator and was stuck in one of those extra roles in the NFL where they don’t have coaching limits.

From The Athletic a year ago: "Yet when he addressed the media after UW’s 28-23 loss to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, Petersen appropriately focused on what needs to be fixed and what the Huskies must do not only to extend their current streak of New Year’s Six bowl appearances but actually win one.
Despite a third consecutive New Year’s Six bowl appearance for his program, Chris Petersen knows the offense needs to be revved up. (Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports) “We’ll have a plan. We will,” Petersen said. “We’ll study the hell out of the tape, and, you know, pare things down so we’re more precise at what we’re doing. It all comes down to execution. And I don’t know if it’s any one thing — we would have fixed it long ago. But we’ve done it in the past. We’ve played good in the red zone in the past. We’ll analyze every bit of tape that we have of ourselves from not just this year. We’ll figure it out.”
It’s been pointed out but Saquon wasn’t the difference between Donovan and Moorhead in 2015 and 2016.
Saquon was only a frosh in 2015 but he was still Saquon. 182 carries for 1076 yards at 5.9 a pop. Only got 1 carry for 1 yard in their season opening loss to Temple but they figured out what they had in the next two games when he went 12/115 and 21/195.
Really no excuse to be ranked outside the top 100 in nearly every offensive category at Penn frickn State with Saquon Barkley at RB. That’s how you go 7-6 with a defense ranked in the top ten nationally at just 4.5 yards per play allowed.
And that’s why nobody hired him and he ended up as a random assistant, not even a position coach, with one of the worst franchises in the NFL.
He must have had a helluva pitch to Jimmy. Because the hire makes zero sense on its face.

Fire Lake already. It’s over. I’ve defended these clowns for too long. Jimmy will be a turd.

It sounds like he was a good one, until he wasn't.
