Big government and more government control. The new Republican party.
Of course I'm triggered, the government is taking over my company. I have a lot of work to to do.
Well, we all know that Trump is a aisle crossing Dem. That's how he won.
It's funny that it's a problem if a "Republican" does it.
To be clear, it’s a serious problem regardless of who proposes it. This whole trade war strategy was always going to be high risk, even if there was a modicum of competence in its administration. Trump and Peter Navarro, a dem economist from UC Irvine, are not competent. At all.
If only we had some sort of alternative. Like maybe a trade block of pacific nations that could surround China with nations trading freely and with an agreement on the strictest ip protections ever negotiated. It's too bad something like that was never proposed....wait a second....
I've seen you make this point before and it is valid.
Serious question CD, what do you do in response to China's IP theft and unequal trade practices? The status quo was unacceptable.
Why do so many companies do business in China if it's so unfair?
I can tell you there is a massive push on security and protecting new IP in the private sector. Also anything stolen by the Chinese within the last year is already obsolete or publicly available(in general).
Socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
Move to China. Don't understand why you are here.
Why move to China? With trump “hereby ordering” privately owned enterprises on how to conduct their business, he’s created your own socialist paradise right here in the US

To gain access to a billion plus potential new customers? Just a guess.

Slave labor. The cheapest form of labor. Cheaper production. If the slaves don't perform they shoot them in the head. We will have that system here if many on this bored have their way.

1. Don’t start a trade war. 2. Stay in TPP to maintain US trade leadership in Asia. 2. End WTO developing country preferences for China. 3. Don’t “go it alone” by squeezing out the EU and Asian countries with similar China problems in a narcissistic and foolhardy exercise in chest beating (you won’t last long). 4. Don’t start a trade war.

I can't disagree with 2 through 3 but engaging in a Trade war with China would have brought them more pain if you did 2-3.
Totalitarian states are always going to be able to endure more hardship than a democracy.
Morons around here somehow think TPP wasn't designed for China trade into the US. Unicorns and rainbows...
And to at least fend of the first wave of stupidity that this poast will draw...I'd like to point out the 60% rule of TPP which said 60% of the VALUE of items for most goods could come outside of the TPP zone. So China could make 90% of the item and ship/sell it to a company in Canada for 50% of the final value of it, Canada could finish it/repackage it and send it to the US and it would be perfectly legal under the TPP. Not to mention all of the other loopholes that stupid agreement contained.
Its why Canada was so pissed about both TPP and the redoing of NAFTA.

100% agree with 2. 2. and 3. but as we've hashed out 100x tims at this point I view the trade war as sanctions against a regime we are actively engaged in a cold war with.
They've also probably been committing genocide for 20+ years that we know of at this point as well.
I don't think a reasoned approach would have gained sufficient traction and that anything nuanced would have flown over the public's head as so many economic things do(See public disapproval for the TPP and how our "pivot" to Asia only made it so Biden made deals with the Chicoms). In that vein I don't so much mind Trump and Navarro's "messaging" even if I think it's totally wrong in principle. It leads the base in the right direction even if for the wrong reasons.
*shrug, this is where I hope for Trump's ego to be pointed in the right direction and for "deals to get done" like a bilateral trade deal with GB. I totally hope the Trade War sends China into its overdue recession and that we see the end of the CCP. A China that resembles Taiwan would be magnitudes better in the long run not just for the US but also for the Chinese People and for all the people of the world.

Just the same as now, we are the big dick and the force behind any trade deal. We could have stipulated 8199% of the terms of the TPP however we felt and other countries would have signed up for it. It was dumb to just give that away and then send all those countries to sign up for the Chinese development bank instead. Which we hilariously fund through low interest loans in the IMF and WTO.
Obama used the IRS to force me to pay for Obamacare whether I used it or not
Same cocksuckers didn't have an issue with it
Trump is on the side of America
Can't say the same for the usual suspects here
Good thing trump is on the side of the US. Can you imagine how much worse he could fuck up US trade if he didn’t? Dodged a bullet there.
Yes yes its all fucked up. Was running perfect before
Sad
You have to break a few eggs (recession, socialism, confiscation of private property) to make the omelette of a “free trade” paradise.
I mean, would you approve of a free trade deal with Iran? How about North Korea? Japan in WW2? The Nazis?
At what point do you draw the line that free trade with authoritarian regimes isn't going to serve the long term interests of free trade and peoples?
Is the US planning on trading with China or not? If trump thinks he’s solving a problem, has a plan, policy or constituency that supports the current chaos, by all means run on that.
The problem with TPP was it was negotiated on our side by Obama
You want an agreement that Trump negotiates I'm in.
What’s stopping trump from successfully negotiating an agreement?
Nothing
Its not microwave popcorn

Don't declare defeat just yet. When a president breaks from the globalist chamber of commerce echo chamber there are always going to be some hurt feelings

They need some really bad shit to happen
Keep hope alive!
Any word on the looming recession? I really want my taxes to go up and for globalists to start bending over again for China
They already own Biden, lets give him a shot
