Highly recommended TL;DR piece on China

I don't think the Sputnik analogy works for the Chinese side. It's more about this country being complacent and not realizing how much technological progress our adversary has made.salemcoog said:
If or when or if already China has had a Sputnik moment, they won't announce it to the masses imo. With all of the theft of military technology, intellectual property and having the advantage of focus that Dictatorship brings, it's not hard to envision them already there.YellowSnow said:
China is still a ways behind us in tech, but they are doing very well in some sectors- e.g., 5G, quantum computing, etc. Remember that for most of the past 2000 years they were more technologically advanced than the West, and we have to consider the possibility that they may catch up (note - I'm not worried about the Arabs regaining their technological prowess because they are done). We need another Sputnik moment to get serious about staying ahead of China.SFGbob said:When China stop stealing our IP, I'll start believing that the Chinese are superior.

Rome fell and was not replaced. The US is losing momentum in the things that made America great. Strong families, a strong work ethic, the rule of law and freedom and liberty. These make for a strong society. Romans decided that bread and circuses were the secret of success. They were overthrown by destroyers, not builders.
The chicoms are not built as replacers. They have more corruption, less rule of law, less freedom and liberty and even have more debt. Americans won’t be destroyed by the chi coms. We will be destroyed as Venezuela is destroyed. The promise of free sh*t to a lazy stupid population. What do you think will happen when the money runs out? Who then helps pay off the Chinese debt? China will tear itself apart also. -

True. I also think we? are JUST as vulnerable due to not being serious about cyber security either. You can have superior tech but it doesn't mean anything if it isn't safe from manipulation. The private sector is just as guilty, if not moreso at this. There should be crippling fines to companies that do business here whom allow their customers and those that they serve info to be stolen.YellowSnow said:

Keep the quantum computing. Screw 5g. If you still don't understand what 5g is really about, you're beyond the point of help.YellowSnow said:

It's about control and surveillance. All they have to do is push a button to fry the brains and bodies of anyone connected to the 5g grid.

I liked it better OBK when we’d Bull shit about me smashing beer cans on the field at Autzen. Not worried about 5G in the US.oregonblitzkrieg said:

China is going to hit a brick wall soon enough. Can't escape their own demographics and the economics of it. We just should be setting it up so they don't corrupt the rule of law in the rest of the world in the mean time.

I read somewhere once that their demographic decline is chinevitable as a result of 1 child policy.UW_Doog_Bot said:China is going to hit a brick wall soon enough.
