My biggest problem with advertising is then at some point, they won't like something said or written, and the potential for more censorship starts up. I'm not totally against it, but maybe that could be in the contract if it were to happen.
I'm just one guy here who has only contributed probably $100 over the years, but I was one of the first 30 or so members in 2012 and I'd like to think my amount of shit posts is better than at least half here.

Depends on your definition of bullying. When posters are logging on here 3-7 times a day and have many thousands of posts, and they don't pay anything, I'm going to say something when they bitch about how the site is being run.

Agree on ostracizing, but flipping some shit for being a cheap fuck is what this site was built on. Last year we tried really hard to make the annual fund drive fun and quirky, with the dong meter and everything. So the flipping of shit could be a smaller part of the overrall experience.
Derek and I actually talk a good bit about the fund support and our approach, so while it looks juvenile and not well thought out, that's just my presentation. We really do have a plan, my execution is usually where shit goes off the rails.
The Athletic seems to have found that consumers will pay to get good sports content without ads. I certainly enjoy it a lot more than other outlets now.
