Pete will be here until his results don't reach Jen Cohen's expectations. I have no idea what she is expecting but I'm going to assume she is fine with double digit win seasons. Let's face it. We do not have a demanding fan base that is going to light torches if Petersen doesn't make the CFP. He might luck out one season and make it in but as far as winning it I wouldn't go to Vegas and put money on it unless I got at least 75-1. He has been successful doing things his way so I can't see a lot of change coming unless he starts bringing in classes below top 15. I was at least encouraged to see he is ripping off Michigan and Clemson's idea of a barbecue weekend event for recruiting. Baby steps.
Wuggy you ignorant slut. His class was below 15. Try research b4 posting. And Chip Kelly and Pup got a good laugh at your post sonny
Well one of us is ignorant and I'm happy to be corrected on this but I have UW at 13 and 11 last two recruiting classes.
Well Wugs, everyone has a different definition of above or below depending on how you see it. My bad in your context. . See pup can admit when he's wronged someone.. Damn, I've never said that my entire life. I've never wronged anyone except the accidental ass dump in Heather #o@$%%%$ back in the early 2000's. I told her "I promise, I'll just put the head in".. well that's hard to do while in the disciplinedarkee...its really hard not to bury a few more inches of 8, even harder to pull out. Trust me...that is the most temptatious apple on earth. It's like 3-4 sins all wrapped up in one. But it's almost worth it. Like squeezing semen out a calking gun.
See just stick to posts like this. You're out of your lane when talking football. It's ok though you being a newfish and all.
You dont have a lane to begin with so just stay on the little cute green bikey
Simple, before Jimmy Lake leaves for another head coaching job. There needs to be a succession plan in place that everybody is on board with similar to what happened at Ohio State with Ryan Day taking over for Urban Meyer. I don't think it will be much longer. Petersen will probably retire after Sam Huard wraps up his career at UW.
You don’t have any fucking clue what Pete’s plans are.
Never said I did fucktard. Simply gave my prediction of when he retires. He's already in his mid-50's. How much longer is his wife willing to share him with teen boys? How much longer will he want to put up with having to recruit these little self-absorbed, attention-seeking drama queens? I don't know. But Jen Cohen would be wise not to lose Jimmy Lake like Bama lost Dabo Sweeney or Syracuse lost Hopkins. You have to have a succession plan in place. We can easily sink right back to mediocrity post-Petersen if the wrong hire is made. Lake gives us the best chance to keep this thing rolling. I don't give a fuck what Petersen's plans are. His plans can be adjusted. It's about whatever is best for the program long term. It has to be planned for and handled with finesse.
I’m not a Jimmy Lake for pres guy. How about we just have the guy who is there now get his head out of his ass?
although i want to agree with you, i think Pete hates some of the key parts of the job such that he will never do them (or get his head out of his ass in your vernacular). I fear the fun parts of the program (Spring game, access to practices, etc) and upscaling the recruiting tactics will never change because he doesn't care to do them.
He just wins 10+ games a year. Not bad for a dude who doesnt care. Ty didnt care either but averaged only 4. I'll take the former. Cue it up tina...
Ty won several Rose Bowls at Stanford!!!1!!
Uh Derek...he didnt win 1..and only went to one
Yes Pup, I know. It was a jab at Tybots that argued their point by citing things that never happened like multiple Rose Bowl wins.
Would someone supply the statistics of how the super assistant/coach-in-waiting who everyone wants to see in the succession plan?
I'm hearing that's a great formula for success.
Worked at Oregon with Chip Kelly. As long as the super successful assistant has an alpha personality and is not a little pussy like Helfrich or complete incompetent like Helton, it's a great way to go. It's very rare in college football to have the staff continuity and loyalty that Oregon used to have and UW has now. We want our best assistants who are okay with being assistants forever, to stay here forever. That only happens if UW makes an in-house hire after Petersen and with Lake being the young superstar who's an alpha, a winner, extremely competent teacher, developer, talent evaluator, and recruiter, he would be the best guy for the job. We don't want to be like Bama fans looking at Dabo Sweeney with envy thinking "that was our guy, he's a stud, we should have kept him here and made him the head coach in waiting". Petersen followed by Lake would have Oregon and the rest of the conference fucked for a long, long time.

Good points but good luck with the Lake scenario. Lake ain't Pete...far from

He's better than Petersen. Petersen was a whizz kid as an OC and yet as a head coach, his offenses have mostly sucked post-Kellen Moore. Lake is a superstar DC who's defenses as a head coach would continue to dominate here. Lake is also a better recruiter than Petersen. Petersen's strengths are his focus on fundamentals, decision making when hiring assistant coaches, being a good guy to work for which promotes staff continuity and loyalty, and he's good at evaluating talent and decent at recruiting. Lake could do all of that but take recruiting to a higher level. If Jimmy was head coach, we might have guys like Drake Jackson, Stephon Wright, Joe Ngata, and Jeremiah Martin on the roster. Imagine Jimmy's recruiting ability spread out across all positions instead of just DB's. It's a tantalizing thought.

The stats are abysmal. There have more elite OCs and DCs who hit their heads against the Peter Principle than you can shake a stick at.
The truth is, for the vast majority of people, there is a point too high in their profession.

Let's be real, these dudes are football coaches.
I've always had a sneaking suspicion that the majority are completely incompetent and the superstars are just not stupid

Yeah well, most assistants that become head coaches aren't nearly as good as Jimmy Lake. Plus, every great head coach was once an assistant. Worry about your own assistant coach who's a shit head coach in Cristobal.

This response is you in a nutshell. You can never concede an inch of ground no matter what it is or how obvious.
It makes you look like you just started following the game 4 years ago.
The comment had nothing to do with Oregon but of course they live in your head.
Yes all great HCs were assistants at some point. That's well within the "no shit" category of responses.
But many of the great ones were good HCs somewhere before they got to the show.
Don't be so defensive ballz. It's a bad look. Again the stats are abysmal and many legendary assistants who were just as well respected as your man crush DB guru flamed out miserably doing the head gig. It is a much different job.

I fucking love the dude but let's see him actually build a defense or deal with roster turnover from his predecessor before we anoint him the next HC.
