Amazon announced Thursday it was turning back on its plans to build its second headquarters in New York City, a company spokesman said in a statement. The move comes after pressure from lawmakers, notably Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who bemoaned the project.
"After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens," the Seattle-based Amazon said in the release.
"For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term. While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City," the statement read
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio had previously touted the deal's benefits, which include a pledge from Amazon to create 25,000 jobs, paying an average of $150,000 per year in exchange for a slew of city and state tax breaks and subsidies worth up to $3 billion.

Fucking AOC. Dipshit.
3 Billion in tax benefits is a pretty good trade off for an estimated 27 billion in wealth added to the local economy. Not smart considering the state is in the middle of a budget problem.
Yet she opposed this.
Because its a private corp
Don't say they want REAL socialism including all means of production
That comes out in Version 6
Care to add something to the discussion or did you just want to say something stupid here?
Once her constituents figure it out, they might realize that they would have been better off if AOC had stayed tending bar.
Guess I'll have company in the re education camp. My wife hates Trump and most GOP too. But she can spot a scam a mile away
I do have a hard time with politicians who support this based on the $3 billion in tax breaks. One local politician said that they could use that money for other shit than subsidizing Amazon, which is fucktarded. I'm heading Damoan screaming that a cut in taxes isn't a subsidy. And he's right. And it's also fucktarded because the additional side taxes that come in as a result of 25,000 new high paying jobs.
And AOCs comments are fucktarded, celebrating the "win" of sticking it to a large corporation.
That being said, AOC is still winning for free pub (following Trump's model of saying stupid shit) and some of you are freaking out about her comments.
Thanks for hopping on with that mealy mouthed pile of shit
Stupid Trump still thinks there are newspapers
