Absolutely, and imagine the maturation that would have taken place in year two.

He had a better year in 2013. Almost 1000 more yards passing (3665 to 2666), almost as many rushing (752 to 715), better QB rating (163 to 167), better QBR (86 to 88), more TDs (37 to 40), and he did it with a hobbled De Anthony Thomas for the second half of the season.

Yep, Helfrich and Frost sure ruined him! Idiots
They didn't ruin him, but they lowered his college ceiling a few feet. It is going to be fun to watch the implosion happen when we lose Mariota next year, and we'll actually have to rely on Helfrich's coaching. But no worries, quooks will throw out the "We lost Mariota excuse" during the 8-5 season. Then when we go 7-6 the next year, we'll get the "wait till the new guy developes card". Finally after going 7-6 again the next year, Helfrich gets canned, and the idiots will claim they new Helfrich was a fraud from the beginning. Boy that sounds familiar......

Why is it going to be fun watching the Ducks implode? What fan thinks that's a good thing?

What I don't understand is why Quackholes can't just enjoy a football season. It's like your self-worth is on the line if the Ducks lose a game. That laxduck guy on eDuck hasn't been right since he took a big road trip to the Arizona game.

    I'm sorry school failed you

Said the person who thought they used sarcasm, yet didn't.

I know old man Phil is slipping when Oregon's offense only scores 16 points in a fucking dreckfest win over Texas and no one gets fired.

Why do you hate forcing Aliotti door.ass.out into retirement?

Mind you, Sven believes that coordinators don't matter, but the post-season rearrangement of the deckchairs in Eugene convinced me to LIFPO this season

    Didn't Rodrigues transfer?

Mariota needs to run less read option, he doesn't have a big frame and Oregon's WRs aren't that good so he may need to take off running on called passes. If he goes out, they'll be even easier to defend (Addison is out for awhile, if not the whole year, with an ACL tear and Huff is gone).

Brown and Mundt will need to be more involved in the passing game, Lowe will be the top possession receiver, and both Devon Allen and Darren Carrington looked great in the spring game. Allen won MVP for the game. He's a beast.

Yep, we have Jake Lockie as the #2 QB... after that we have a true freshman (highly rated but true frosh) Morgan Mahalak

    OBK has a poont here.

    2010: 222/361 61.5% 2881 yards 30 TDs 9 INTs QBR: 151.0
    2011: 211/339 62.2% 2761 yards 33 TDs 7 INTs QBR: 158.7

Thomas was a very good college QB.

    Mariota:

    2012: 230/336 68.5% 2677 yards 32 TDs 6 INTs QBR: 163.2
    2013: 245/386 63.5% 3665 yards 31 TDs 4 INTs QBR: 167.7

MM turned it up a notch, but most any team in the Pac-12 would have been thrilled to have Thomas under center.

Thomas ran our offense and did so very well. Maybe he reached his peak at Oregon, but that's no reason to bash the guy.

I don't really give a shit, but I had the impression Mariota was a much better runner in addition to being a slightly better passer?

Yeah, on a similar number of rushes, Mariota is good for about 2.5 YPC than Thomas. Both are productive running threats though.

My point is that OBK actually has one - a lot of people in the Quook camp really teed off on Thomas when he left early without knowing why he left - and in terms of the trophy case he's probably the best QB in school history.
I know why Thomas left. He didn't want to be a backup to Mariota his senior year. You also have to factor how Mariota would have been under Kelly vs. Helfrich. It's completely relevant that there is a huge difference.
Mariota under Kelly choked against Stanford. HTH. However he did choke more grievously against Stanford under Helfrich.
