Build better cyber security. Don't fucking outsource production to a country that will steal your trade secrets. Don't sell to a country that will reverse engineer your tech. Don't let the Chinese buy a majority stake in your company. Alot of IP theft is self inflicted.

The thinking of the neo-liberals of the 90's was that opening China to free trade would likewise open the country to democratic values. Instead, we have seen the CCP gain a vast amount of wealth and become a new force for authoritarianism in the world with the checkbook to bankroll their soft power. Fascism is a much scarier competitor to liberal democracies than communism specifically because of its use of the free market to finance its military industrial complex.
This is additionally why it was so dumb to rip up the TPP. It was a free trade agreement that WE WROTE THE RULES for and could have changed. If I could have a free trade agreement with every country in the world except the CCP sign me the fuck up. Yes, even Russia relative to the CCP.
TLDR Fuck the CCP this is the one instance I can understand the use of tariffs. Think of them as "economic sanctions" if you have to.
