I love when people get upset at me for saying “we don’t actively recruit in the winter and spring” because it just seems so unrealistic that when things like this happen you have to find an even more unrealistic justification to disagree.
This past Spring Herbig had an interview in which he was gushing about UW and said he "loves Coach Gregory" and that was "his guy". So the facts don't support your narrative. Herbig absolutely loved UW. If they wanted him, he'd be a Dawg. They passed. Not because he sucks. But because of the 2021 guys they're in on.

Yep. Between Tae, Slusher and Hill probably one stick. Recruits are put off by how young Oregon’s DB depth chart is.
I think the strategy is take them and let it sort itself out. It’s not like the staff is naive and going to get blindsided by this.

He's really good, but I think UW began to cool on him the more the 2021 ILB board began to get worked out during the Spring evaluation period. I don't think UW will take an ILB this class. No, there are only two position groups in which UW really loaded up on last class and can now afford to be very selective at this class. ILB and D-line.
Between those two positions, ILB is the only position that is clearly loaded out West in the 2021 class with kids that UW feels very good about.

Like I said, Botelho was a miss at OLB. I'm not a doog who thinks UW passed on everybody they don't get. I know when UW misses on kids and when they pass. Herbig is a pass. Except it's not. Obviously UW is a much better program than they were under Sark and therefore are recruiting at a much higher level than Sark ever did. The program is beginning to recruit itself. UW has been turning away 4-star talent for a while now. This is nothing new. Back under Sark, we were never gonna get the big recruits in the next class that doogs thought we were gonna get. Flowe has a really close brother like relationship with Cam Davis and Botelho & Herbig were once licks at the Poly Bowl never even came on an all expenses paid trip to UDUB which is a bigger deal when from Hawaii.
