The Standard For UW Football

I think 60% is very realistic. I'd say even 75%. But Smalls is a top 5 player in the nation with to my knowledge no real UW ties. He's a 50-50 type kid at best.Dennis_DeYoung said:
God - this is what I don't understand... WHY SHOULDN'T WE?!?!?dnc said:
I'm not sure that we SHOULD get Smalls. Our history of getting 5 star in state talent sucks balls for as long as we have of tracking what actual 5 star in state talent is. On a national basis 5 stars aren't any more likely to stay in state than they are to leave home.Dennis_DeYoung said:
I think you're basically right. I think last year with two additional guys is a Natty class: Togiai and Martin.dnc said:
I don't think he has to do better than last year. If we get 3-4 2018 recruiting classes, we natty, simple as that.CokeGreaterThanPepsi said:
We must keep fighting!!!dnc said:I actually agree chances are CP finishes his UW career more accomplished than DJ, but he's got a ways to go to get there.
That’s the thing, he can absolutely get there. But he’s gotta fucking get after it exactly like he did last year in recruiting (but better) for the next 3-4 years, and whatever in game shit is necessary.
There is so much going right, so so much, we are so damn close. We’ll get there and it’ll be amazing when we do.
The only worry is that we are systematically under-recruiting at particular positions and that creates a weird roster. I guess I would say - last year's class is good enough if we get Martin.
But also - the catch here is that, for instance, next year - if we do what we SHOULD do, then we will be naturally higher because of Smalls, Hatchett, Ringo and the rest of our in-state class. But that would be 3 5-star guys.
I agree we should get Hatchett and Ringo. Going three or three would be fucking insane.
HE IS A FUCKING IN STATE KID WHO HAS US IN HIS TOP 3.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
Why lower the fucking Standards?!?! We got Mike Lustyk. We can get anyone man. What does it hurt to set the expectations high? I really don't see it.
Of course we should get 5-star in state guys. Those are the only 5 star guys we ever get. If we improve our hit rate from 0% to 60% that would make us formidable. -
Enough about UW football guys. Go to the thread about Leach arguing with people on Twitter, much better.

This is one of the most retarded poasts I've ever read. You require a Heisman level QB to compete with a team like Bama. And even then you fall short, because your defense isn't SEC quality. And your lineman are nowhere near as gnarly as theirs. Everyone in every position on that team is the best of the best. Luck really would be the only shot you'd have of beating them. Or Auburn. Or most other SEC teams on any given Saturday.haie said:If UW can make the playoffs in year 3 with a dreck quarterback they are more than capable of winning a *national championship* without needing to get lucky with a Heisman level one.

Man my avatar is really fucking gay. Fits like a glove though. BTW reading Coker, Dennis and DNC say that we are so close to winning big and that so many things are going right in our program has officially ruptured my penis. That is all.UW_Doog_Bot said:
Seems like the majority of poasters expect the Pac12 championship or better. I'm not sure who is expecting less. -
Only one SEC defense had a higher S&P+ rating than Washington's last year. Washington has had one of the best defenses in the country for three years running. HTH.oregonblitzkrieg said:

The serious programs in the Pac-12 would appreciate if you step your game up in the future. We are tired of carrying the banner for the conference every year. And if you can't be better, just start the PAC PAC PAC chant in your stadium when you see our winning scores on your trac phones. You are an embarrassment to football. Win something you fucking losers!
Sincerely,
A PROUD Pac-12 fan -

What was the last Tier II program to win a national championship without an elite, generational QB?

One of these games is not like all the others. Get to that game and then popoff. FYI Oregon decimated blue-blood FSU to get there. While UW got plungered by blue blood Bama in their only playoff appearance.Southerndawg said:

An elite, generational QB is a boost at any level, but winning big doesn't hinge on that. In fact there's maybe one or two of those in the NFL right now, and none in college. It's defeatist and unreasonable to assume that a team can't win big without one.Gladstone said:What was the last Tier II program to win a national championship without an elite, generational QB?
What becomes less tolerable for most teams is mistakes and ineffectiveness from that position. See Brownshorts as exhibit A. Pressure causes him to go full retard and he lacks the arm strength to stretch the field. In really big games, he's shown a propensity for spotting opposing teams unsurmountable scoring and field position advantages. That situation limits any team's chances of winning really big games. Even truly elite teams struggle with this, but they use their depth, coaching, and confidence to adjust in real time. See Nick Saban's mid-MNCgame solution to the problem.
What is needed for a team like the Huskies at the QB position is a a good to very good QB with enough mental toughness to avoid going full Brownshorts when the shit hits the fan, and enough arm strength to keep opposing defenses honest. Add a disruptive tough as nails defense, an O-Line capable of controlling the line of scrimmage, good to very good running backs, wide receivers and TE's, and they're winning big. -

The whole fucking point of this thread you shit sack is that we are fucking WASHINGTON and we want our teams to look like that team in the video.
That team was made up of recruiting classes that were highly rated, but not #1 in the conference (#3 usually behind USC and UCLA, but top 15) and they had a great coach. That great coach was pretty mediocre without great recruiting. We need Joe Ngata and Gaard Memmelaar and god forbid we actually get black kids (NOT AFRICANS) to play on our team...

Skinny is a fucking generational talent you dumb sack of monkey shit so why are we even talking about this shit?
THE WHOLE POONT OF THIS THREAD IS THAT WE CAN HAVE DOMINANT TEAMS. WE HAVE HAD THEM. WE CAN AGAIN.
IF YOU MAKE EXCUSES AS TO WHY WE CAN'T: YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM AND FUCK YOU GO TO DAWGMAN. -
Going back to 1960, every coach through 2000 fielded some bad ass teams that went toe to toe with the best in the country. Owens and James both won Conference and National Titles, Lambright pissed away a lot of talent, but still won some really big games (beat Ohio State and Miami in back to back games), and Rick beat a "generational" Miami along with winning a PAC Title and a Rose Bowl. We all know how far the program fell after that, to more than a decade of historic lows, but IMO, Peterman is close to restoring it. Competing against the best is in the program's DNA. It should be expected.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Yes, Lambo was insanely bad. Our 1994 team beat fucking Miami on the road and Ohio State at home and then lost to fucking Oregon, Stanford and WSU. Jesus fucking Christ Lambo.
That team was Natty level, but we just gave out after the Oregon loss.
We always went toe-to-toe. We were never a team like we are now that got clown stomped by any talented teams. Sure, we took lumps from big time programs when we had shitty teams, but we gave them, too. -
LSU has to be pretty damn close to tier 1, I know they're in Mandel's "Kings" tier. 3 NC's, 5 unclaimed NC's, a Heisman winner, 25 bowel wins. If they're not tier 1 they're certainly not looking up at anyone in tier 2.Dennis_DeYoung said:

I’m so fucking sick of this shit.
LSU was shitty or middling for fucking 40 years before Saban.
They got a Natty with Saban and then a run-off Natty under Miles and haven’t done anything since. Before that they won the fucking SEC like twice in 30 years.
THEY ARE NOT TIER I.
Are they at the top of a second tier team? Sure.
Fucking morons out here are saying fucking Clemson and LSU are a tier I because that’s what’s happened recently. There is such a fucking moronic recency bias in people it’s stupid.
FROM 1960 TO 2000 LSU won the SEC 4 times.
A team wins its conference FOUR TIMES in FORTY YEARS and you idiots say they are tier one?!?
Alabama won the SEC 15 times in the same span. Jesus fucking Christ.
It’s fucking embrarrasing.
You know what they have? What Clemson has? What Auburn and UGA have? Good brands.
Don’t confuse a good brand with being Tier I.
Until Saban showed up LSU had one Natty.
In 1958. All their unclaimed Natties are prior to 1965 (and they have an irrelevant one in 2011).
If we’d have hired Saban for fucking 4 years we would have a better history than fucking LSU.
Fuck LSU. They are 13th in winning % all time among P5 programs and we are 17th.
Jesus fucking Christ.

I didn't say they're tier 1. I said they're top of tier 2. You agreed.Dennis_DeYoung said:

The rest of this is just ranting for rants sake. Which is fine, IWYLTD. -
Tier 1A programs are
USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame
Tier 1B:
Penn State, Florida State, Florida, Miami -
Tier 2 is
P12: UCLA and UW
Big XII: ?? Great conference guys
SEC: Tennessee, UGA, LSU, Auburn, A&M
B1G: Michigan St.
ACC: Pitt is probably almost out of it now, but... -
And I would never rank Clemson Tier 1.They're only up because of Dabo, if (once) he leaves for Bama they'll be back down.
I think of the tiers differently than accomplishments, I think of them in terms of a) "what caliber of a coach does it take to win here" and b) if we find a great coach how likely are we to lose him to another school?
Tier 2 schools need great coaches to win but can keep them if they actually do (DJ at UW, Dabo at Clemson).
Tier 1 schools can win with a good but not great coach (Texas with Mack Brown and even classifying him as good is generous, Florida State with Jimbo).
