Fuck the D-League forever. NOGAF about that shit league.
If you go to a blue blood basketball school you can get an education if you want and you will get great facilities and coaching and have time to become a man. -

1) HS to NBA directRaceBannon said:
So these kids we have never seen or heard of (if not a recruiting junkie) will spend one year at college where nobody watches anymore then be an anonymous top draft pick no one has seen and will sit on the bench to become a man so they can actually play in the NBA by the time they are even more long forgottenRDR said:
Wonder what happened to college basketball?
Spare me the kids need to be paid - they are. But is it really in the best long term interest of either business? You either need to go to 2 or 3 years or 3 years with a straight out of high school option for the rare LeBron James or the Duke kid.
Kids get paid in college too and I am hearing that college is so valuable it needs to be free.
2) Highschool to minimum 3 year commitment
one and done is killing basketball, fuck the D league or the minor league nonsense, either go to the NBA out of high school or commit to a school and let me enjoy watching team development and actually getting to know the non shitty players by name before they leave.
Those should be the only options. If players get to drop the "it's just a business decision" line then so can I. IDGAF about NBA until the finals in the playoffs, I like college basketball, thats my business, it's nothing personal. Kill everything else with fire. -

While our zone varies a little depending on the other team. We primarily play a 4-1. Which can suck against good passing teams because Dickerson and Timmins are slow so they give up the back door too often. If we get McDaniels too, I'd think we'd play some 3-2. But regardless, we are no where near a 2-3.
I wish we'd switch to some 1-3-1 concepts at times. And take advantage of the trap in the corner. We seem more interested in stopping the corner shot than trying to get that double team. Would be effective to switch into that for a few plays at a time.
If there's ever a HH expansion draft where all of the poasters end up with new teams Hondo needs to be drafted to kobestopper away from the tug. -
Yeah - except he ended up getting coached up and did ok at GU. He should have stayed another year but whatever....HillsboroDuck said:U

Let players jump straight from high school, but let them go back to college if they go undrafted. Same with early entries.
As long as you repay agents for coffee cups received this shouldn't be a problem.
NBA just wants a free year of scouting so you don't pay millions to Sebastien telfair. A lot of kids get pumped up by snake handlers, are left undrafted and unable to compete in college bc they lose eligibility.
Protect the kids from the adults, let the superstars skip campus all together. -
Race and others have it right with the straight to high school or go for 2 or 3 years. I disagree folks should be able to go to college if not drafted. I think that would just open the door to a bunch of guys declaring and then waiting to see where they are drafted before then going back to college. If you're incredibly stupid to think you're going first round and don't, welcome to the D-league son. The NBA should provide plenty of independent council to help kids understand they are on the edge of not going in the 1st round(free of charge), b/c we all know agents will try to say they are a lock. I don't think you should punish kids, but they should also understand that if you aren't going comfortably in the 1st round you need to re-evaluate your decision or be ready to prove yourself. If someone really doesn't get drafted at all? That's on them that they ignored the committee who told them they weren't even on the 1st round radar.Doogles said:Let players jump straight from high school, but let them go back to college if they go undrafted. The D-league is an absolute joke for many reasons, primarily b/c for all that's wrong about baseball(ie it's boring as fuck) it has it's draft model together. They pay guys a lot of money with zero expectation to ever make the league. They actually try to develop guys for a while before throwing them to the wolves. On top of that, the guys who are extremely good but "never make it" will still make a shit load of money and it's up to them whether they blow it on their 5th Fiat. The d-league doesn't develop players at all, and to be honest I have no idea what's it's primary purpose really is. The NBA should be utilizing it as a true minor league so that late developers could actually have a place to land and make a NBA team at age 23/24/25(which isn't old). They would be able to stash rookies and still pay them well enough. And here is a funny part, the D-league would even make some money if you put some good players in there as they develop.
In the last 5 years, even the most die-hard of college basketball fans are going away from the sport b/c it just doesn't matter. Most of the guys leave, the game is pretty drek as it takes more and more time for teams to gel with 18 yr olds, and the kids don't seem all that invested in the team they are on. The last part may be my own bias, but it sure seems like a lot of kids barely care who they are playing for, let alone against. Maybe it's an AAU culture thing where it's just another game, another night, but it feels like the fire is out of the game. You don't have years of players going against one another to build that rivalry. Most guys seem more open to hanging out than kicking each other in the nuts to see who's still standing. I remember hating UCLA, hating Oregon, even(cough, cough) hating Wazzu. Now, who the fuck cares about any of it? Does UCLA even play basketball anymore.....asking for a friend.
Apparently i've joined the Get off my lawn guy crowd. eh, fuck it.

The only problem I have with the 2-3 year model is dudes blow up after 1 year (Chriss) and should have the right to make a million dollar paycheck.
Letting them jump straight out eliminates that number greatly because guys like Zion never show up. This will give more continuity to teams by default.

We don't know that though. If Criss was in college for 2-3 years he may have developed far better than trolling against much more developed and ready NBA guys. When he can't stay in a college game based on fouls going to the NBA wasn't exactly going to increase his useful defensive numbers. Agreed it does eliminate some guys from getting paydays, but they still have the option of going out of HS, which Chriss probably would have done and then he's in the same place.Doogles said:The only problem I have with the 2-3 year model is dudes blow up after 1 year (Chriss) and should have the right to make a million dollar paycheck.

Hard to imagine him getting drafted any higher than 8th overall. Now that we've seen him in the NBA he probably would have exposed himself and dropped.
He was picked purely off potential and NBA ego thinking they could develop his rawness.
The argument if staying 2 years was better for his development and long term professional earnings is another debate. -
