Assuming Pete is smart enough to get a new OC & QB coach at season's end, who do we want?
I think Jeff Horton is a name to consider. He is the OC & RB coach at San Diego State... they beat both Furd & ASU this year.
He has coached OLs in the NFL, and RBs in the NFL
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_HortonHe has a run first offense at SDSU
http://www.espn.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/21Maybe a retread with some baggage, maybe too old for Pete to feel comfortable around, maybe not enough of a spread guy if Pete is infatuated with the spread, but I'd love to see a OC like Horton at UW. His experience, with the talent we can get at UW, could be the recipe for an offense that doesn't suck.

But the OC role at UW would be a step up for Horton.
Hire a good coach, not necessarily a friend.
Oregon has had a top notch offense forever. Helfrich
has been ingrained in it. Perfect offense for Yankoff
and our running backs.
But he definitely can't hire someone with a rigid offensive philosophy who'd try and fit a square peg into a round hole (see Miles, Cyler and Smith, Jonathan)
quarterbacks with vastly different styles. I'm at least hoping
Sirmon has some running ability. If he can at least move as well
as Justin Herbert then Helfrich I think would be a hell of a hire.
Just don't let Sirmon or Yankoff run goal line keepers.
