John Canzano: Oregon needs new focus to ever catch Washington
http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2017/11/canzano_oregon_ducks_football_4.html"Oregon isn't close to beating Washington right now. These teams could have played the game 100 times and the Ducks would have lost every one of them badly. The majority of them, I think, much worse than the merciful 35-point beatdown from Chris Petersen on Saturday. In fact, dozens of them would have been shutouts."
"We all know Florida has a coaching opening. Taggart would be a turn-key hire there. He has deep state connections. He has a recruiting class that would flip from Oregon to Florida, just like that. Take the job and he'd never have to get a Lake Washington wind-burn again. And while Taggart says nobody in Gainesville has made contact with him, or his agent, if I'm UO athletic director Rob Mullens I'm playing defense with my new hire. Which is why I'd spend the coming bye week at Taggart's side, asking him what he needs to close the gap on the Huskies."

"Not convinced that Washington is that great. They're really good on defense. Smothering. Hard hitting. All that. But offensively, they're inferior to the real contenders. There's just not the same "pop" as last season for UW. They're about the No. 8-10 best team in the country, I think. No shame there, but a one-loss Washington team doesn't belong unless there's total chaos in front of them. The Pac 12 is weak."

Offense, at best, firing on all cylinders is a Number 10 type O...just not enough playmakers, and without Black Beast and Adams, even being 10 might be generous. On it's worst day, when Downsox is shitting all over himself, it's not even top 25.
Kicking game is top 5 on returns, bottom 5 in all of CFB on FG's.
8-10, overall, is where I'd have us right now, BUT, the test is the next three weeks. If we can add some wrinkles to get the O on track and consistent, then top 5 overall no problem. That's a big ask though with Smiff and Downsox. Tick tick tick...lulz
I had a good laugh. He's hated by ducks and beavs alike down here.
honestly WSU is probably the easiest remaining game on the schedule.
Age: Yo canbozo and muskrat trolls it's called not having his recruits!! It's what was left by the old coaching staff. He has a freshmen QB1!! WTF!!! It is also called bad recruiting by the old dinosaur coaching staff!!!
DrynDusty: @trueman57 Sorry, but no team with a fan base that keeps using such a diminutive term as 'NATTY' will ever win same. The Gods of football may seem fickle at times, but they are just.
forbalance: If you've watched the Huskies for the last few decades you would know there is no play where you can guarantee your QB won't get hit. Late, and dirty hits, are part of Huskie DNA.
ironicisntit: Give the dogs their due. They won and were the better team. But not that much better. They got some breaks and , though I am reluctant to say it because I don't like to sound like sour grapes, but If the Ducks have Herbert they probably win. Physically, I didn't see much difference , unlike last year when UW was clearly, painfully superior. The ducks are vastly better this year. UW is not. I think Taggart , if he stays, will achieve his stated goal of being the first black head coach to win a national championship...at Oregon.
totalorange: I watched Browning's TD pass to Pettis. Great throw. 50 yards in the air into Pettis' hands. The Husky running backs are inconsistent. They are the main reason the Husky offense struggles.
sec34autzen: Be proud all you want to B2B, 5, 6, and even 7-win seasons just aren’t acceptable. Relishing in the Kelly-era is unrealistic and absurd...we ALL know that, so we don’t need someone telling us how it's gonna be in the future.Oregon has made major strides in the last several seasons. Look at your big-time programs...Ohio State, Penn State, Auburn, Miami, and heck...even Alabama have had down years. College athletics, especially football, is cyclical. You basically have a brand new team every 4 (or so) years. OSU’s last major bowl game was what...2001 Fiesta Bowl??? You worry about your program, and we’ll worry about ours.
This one got a few good laughs for the UO/Bama comparison.
Then, to follow up pn sec43:
Desert Duck: Recruits see Oergon with tOSU, Alabama, USC and thats all that matters.
I laughed more reading the comments section than I did at the last comedy show I went to. Holy fuck, OLive is comedy gold.
Braxton Burmeister can handle more than this coaching staff is giving him...the last 4 minutes of the game when they ran out the clock, that's what they did...run out the clock. Didn't even attempt ONE pass play. This is way too talented a team to be bipolar. I went back and watched the tape of the 2007 Sun Bowl...5th-string qb Justin Roper, making his first start helped Oregon throw and run all over...South Florida. 2 teams that had @ one time were ranked No. 2 in the country that season. South Florida's head coach that year...Jim Leavitt. The irony of it all. I don't believe for one minute that Roper was a better qb than Burmeister is now. While WSU, Stanford and Washington are good football teams, Burmeister is 4 1/2 games into this process and quite capable of putting up more points than play-calling and penalties that needs to change (Coach Taggart has had one season in 9 when his team finished in the top-60 in penalties...ONE
Agree.
It's not as if He had to do the presser from a flatbed.
Peterman is in year four. Say what you want about Sark, but that drunkard could recruit. Pete came in with talent on the roster and is a good coach. Sark was a better recruiter, Pete is a better coach. Those things both work out to a 9 win program, which is not bad in any way.
Slingblade was a pussy who couldn't do either. Campbell and Greatwood kept up their coaching and recruiting after Chip left because they are just great coaches. Everyone else went into retirement mode. Outside of running back, the O-line, and one QB that grew up across the street the Ducks had a shitty roster. The rumblings were there were six guys in the team when Willie took over that could bench 225lbs. That's fucking mind blowing but not surprising with Sling being a pussy and Radcliff valuing stretching over lifting.
Willie is bringing in talent regardless of his coaching ability. He will get Oregon to a 9 win program by his fourth year regardless of anything else. If he bails for a job in the south after that point the next guy will have a roster to work with.
UW's head coach left for USC. That means UW's program wasn't in a bad place. Oregon fired their head coach because he let the train run off the tracks. If Herbert plays this article doesn't get written and it's year one of getting it back together.
