"I even called the Washington coaches a few days before the first day of the Signing Period and told them I was going to sign with Notre Dame. The Husky coaches were a little upset about that because they said they didn’t even know I was looking at anyone else and asked me to give them one more chance. They said they didn't think they still needed to sell me since I was already committed so they asked for another shot and I thought that was fair so I agreed I wouldn't sign early."
Turner said he still came close to signing with Notre Dame on Friday, December 21st, the final day of the Early Period.
“My mom and I drove up to Los Angeles to pick up my older sister from school,” Turner said. “I brought the paperwork for Notre Dame just in case I felt like signing it. I was still leaning to Notre Dame at the time but I decided to hold off. Notre Dame told me they didn’t want to pressure me and wanted to give me my space and that was cool of them. If that Friday was actually the last day that you could sign and there wasn’t a February Signing Period, I would be going to Notre Dame right now.”
“At the AA Bowl, I struggled at linebacker, I didn’t think I played well at all. The Notre Dame coaches said the way I was used isn’t how they would use me and I got that but safety is where I felt so much more comfortable. I had a really good time playing safety at the Poly Bowl and felt so much more natural and comfortable there. I had been asking for a sign of some kind to separate the two teams and the Husky coaches kind of joked with me that my sign was how much better I felt at safety over linebacker.”
This past week, Turner had coaches from both schools come in for home visits.
“Coach Polian and coach Lee came in for Notre Dame on Monday coach Lake came on Tuesday,” Turner said. “The Notre Dame visit went really well but after they left, I was still feeling Washington a little more. Then after coach Lake came and we talked, I started to lean even more to Washington. I have a great relationship with coach Lake, my whole family does. When I was at the Poly Bowl, he came to my school and watched my sister play volleyball.
