2007: cumming off a 10-wiin season and a convincing 45-10 thrashing of aTm in the Holiday Bowel, yeah Marshawn is gone butbutbut Desean, Forsett, defense, Longshore, yadayada
Then Longshore gets his ankle rolled in the Oregon wiin, and Kevin Riley doesn't know how to throw the ball away against fucking Oregone State, potential #1 team ends up 7-6 with a minor bowel wiin against Air Farce
cautionary tail
Longshore, lol.
I feel kinda bad for Nate Longshore. He comes in as the heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers, and the first thing he does is get his ankle broken against Sac State in the 2005 opener. Then he comes back the next year and has a serviceable season as the Bears do well. Then he's Kuiper's #1 junior QB going into 2007, and again does well until he gets his ankle rolled late in the Oregon game, and he's never the same again. But Tedford keeps putting him in because he doesn't trust Kevin Riley not to brainfuck again like he did at the end of the OS(U) game, and poor Nate can't complete passes because he can't put weight on one of his feet. Desean leads a bit of a locker room revolt to try to get Riley the starting job because he can throw long enough for Desean to outrun his defender and catch up to the ball. Wacky hilarity ensues, Bears fall apart. 2008 rolls around and Tedford decides to platoon QBs. Works well enough for Cal to go 9-4 with an Emerald Bowel wiin against Miami, but neither QB has the confidence and safety that comes with the outright starting job. Nate was one of the last players to leave the field after the bowel wiin against Miami, staying on the field long after most fans had left. I made sure that I stayed to give him a hearty round of applause as he left the field as a Golden Bear for the last time. Oh yeah, his dad died his sophomore year, too, massive heart attack.
Longshore also was QB during Tedford's experimental phase, where he added more and more shit to the playbook and made it waay too complicated for any college QB/team to handle. I recall the 2007 USC game, where Longshore inexplicably threw to an empty spot on the field four times. It was completely baffling that a decent game manager would look that bad, so sometime later I had somebody ask Michalczik, OC for Cal at the time, what had happened. He ansewered that two were plays where the WR just flat ran the wrong route, and two were plays where the WRs didn't see Longshore's hand check at the line that told them to run a different route (it was a rainy night game). So some of what infuriated Cal fans about incomplete passes wasn't Nate's fault. Then again, somewhere along the line I read/heard that Nate's 4th quarter TD/INT ratio was 1-11.

I think I started dooging in about 91. First time was in the bath tub. I've tried to stop but one just can't walk away from 'ole reliable.'
Oh, that dooging. I dooged pretty hard from 90 until Gilbertson lost to Nevada at home, so like from 91 to 2003. I dooged pretty hard for Sark but I think that was mostly stockholm syndrome from the Ty years, though I admittedly get hard just thinking about God's play. Ugh, kill me now.
