yeah i don't usually bookrage and love the show very much but fuck that episode was disappointing idk where to begin
how about
to avenge the death of oberyn, elaria killed the rest of his family???? LOL WAT
Say what you will about the Dorne chapters from the books, but at least they made some sense.
This Sand Snakes coup bullshit is just bad writing.
Like, how the fuck are all of Doran's men cool with him getting murdered? Areo Hotah was his ONLY loyal guard??? A few in on a conspiracy, maybe I'd buy. But ALL of them being ok with Doran getting killed after already losing Ellia and Oberyn is just wrong. And even if this is the case, why would they all be ok with letting the Sand Snakes take over? Bastards in Dorne may not be treated as harshly as the rest of Westeros, but they're still not considered legitimate heirs. Surely another Dornish house would overthrow them easily now that all the Martells are dead. They just created a power vacuum at home in their attempt to go to war with the Lannisters. Doesn't really accomplish anything...
What a waste of a perfectly good story arc.
Spot on. Dorne in the show is just becoming a feminist's wet dream.
Book Doran is crafty as hell, snuffs out his own daughter's plot to attack Myrcella, and promptly imprisons her for it. But his neutered show counterpart is totally unaware of his most trusted guards committing treason against him. The plot makes even less sense when you consider that Dorne is absolutely thriving. The only people who actually care about avenging Elia and Oberyn's deaths are their immediate families; the rest of the House Martell soldiers and the general populace are living in a peaceful and prosperous region while the rest of the realm burns. They would have absolutely no reason to murder their beloved prince in favor of some reckless bastard women who have no right to the crown.
The worst part about these major deaths is how quick and anticlimactic they have been. Selmy, Stannis, and Doran all deserved much better sendoffs, yet D&D killed them off at the hands of characters who had no business delivering their final blows. While the Hound at least died in a brutal fight, he should have never lost to a fighter as inferior to him as Brienne is. The whole show is transforming into the kind of bad cliche that Martin's writing had always so masterfully avoided. Fuck D&D.
FWIW I think the Hound is still alive. This isn't Fargo where the majority of the deaths happen off screen. So far, if someone is dead, they show them dead. While Stannis is most likely dead, we didn't see him get got either.

Why don't you just come out and say you don't think Brienne murdered Hound.

I think he's alive too. In the books. But given how much D&D have bastardized Martin's version, I wouldn't be surprised to see them completely omit that story line in favor of some more heroine bullshit from the sand snakes.
GoT: TV version followed it pretty much to the letter (as well as a TV show can)
CoK (hehe): A few character changes and ommisions. Biggest change was Rob's wife being a main character
SoS: Here's where they started making some pretty big changes and left out some big stuff. The big storyline stayed pretty much in tact though. It still irritates me that the series left out Jaime revealing the truth about Tyrion's wife, though. IMO it was the most important detail of Tyrion's character arc and provided Tyrion much more motivation for killing his father.
FfC and DwD: Pretty much fan fiction. All storylines have major changes and major omissions. Some for the better (Sansa) and some terrible (everything with Dorne).
