No I-never-lost-a-game-12-0-motherfucker BJ Hobert on a list that includes Mariota instead?
This conference makes my ass ache.
Eh, I'm usually with you on most things, but not this one.
First, all men with two first names are hill billy fags from West Virginia. Period.
Second, it's not like those Washington teams needed him. We? They? You? go 12-0 with you and me rotating under center. True story. Remember, fucker wasn't even supposed to start that year.
Third, I don't remember a lot of heroic moments from BJ during '91. He was a good player with a lively arm, but he was as much a caretaker as a star.
Mariotta, while not exactly playing for shit teams either, was THE fucking show. In terms of brass balls, while Billy Joe was irreverent with his mouth, Mariotta did it on the field.
I'd take Mariotta over Hobert 7 days a week.
Just to pick apart part of your point, they go 11-1 at best with Brunell who lost games in 90 and 92. Nebraska was all Billy
Nebraska couldn't get across Miami's 40 yd. line in the Orange Bowel and got ass-raped by Gino Toretta and Lamar Thomas.
In other words, Nebraska, Eh. BFD.
Exactly.
No
UCLA was 3-8 and Brunell lost to them
Trailing on the road in the 2nd half UW doesn't come back under Brunell or you at QB

Careful assuming too much about the creep. You haven't seen my arm fucko!
I think we've lost track of the poont here: All Century by position. If I were doing an all century team for the Canes, I wouldn't just look to 12-0 records, because they've had 3 or 4 QBs better than Toretta who didn't go 12-0.
Comparing Herbert and Mariotta, I'll take the second guy on the All-Century team.
Going undefeated usually takes some luck. No way of telling if Brunell drops one there. Hebert made his mistakes too. I recall a shitty outting against 3-8 USC on the road, at which the UW D bailed him out by holding the Trojans to 7.
Maybe the 90 D wasn't quite as dominating or consistent as the 91 D. We both know that teams come together when they come together. Miami 2000 was technically even more loaded than 2001, but it really came together in 2001 (actually late 2000).
Bottom line: I'm not handing All Century to Billy Joe Camero based on the accomplishments of the '91 team, a lot of which had to do with a once-in-a-lifetime D line and a pretty special O line and running game. Herbert was good; don't get me wrong. But this confrence has had plenty better at that spot.
Creep carries them their beer after they go 12-0 maybe.
I hear you. I watched that SC game just a couple weeks ago, and BJ made me fuckin' crazy with shitty throws 25 years after the fact.
But he won that game - and every other game he played in. Mariota didn't win the big game.
That's all. I'm not lobbying for either one of them to be on the list - just seems strange that the guy that didn't win the big game is on the list and the guy that did win the big game - isn't.
Plus, I was buzzed up and looking for an argument.

May as well put PatHadenFS on the list too if winning the big game is the prerequisite. Actually twice winning it all.
Milloy should have had a sniff at safety. He was an all-American and his pro career legitimized him as the real deal
There are multiple members of the 1991 team that say Shane Pahukoa was a far better college safety than Milloy.
I can see arguing he was on the same level, but far better? That's just teammates taking up for their guy, no way that has any credibility. Milloy was the shit.
Milloy stood out with his incredible physical play. But he was out of position some of the time, and Pahukoa was far more disciplined, they said.

I see how you're playing the browns vs the blacks.

They sound like Haters. It's all love in Husky nation, but you'd be a fool to pick Shane over Lawyer.

My recollection: Lawyer's nickname was "the mistake eraser." That doesn't describe someone who is often out of position, and if it does, then he must have been really really good at getting back into position, or into the "right" position, wherever that happened to be.
See his goal line stop of James Stewart for a loss on 4th down in the Whammy game. Stewart walks in on that play without Milloy.

That's cool they love Shane. They might even be right that Pahukoa was more disciplined and Lawyer was out of position some of the time (throwaway statement btw, everyone is out of position some of the time). Doesn't matter, Lawyer was still better.
Honestly Tommie Smith stood out more on the 91 team than Shane did. But I'm sure he was out of position some of the time too.

UW isn't 12-0 with out Hobart
I care about that.
