Perspective - Stanford

I understand it was a painful loss, especially with the offense looking so bad and the really stupid fake punt, but...

1. Stanford has the top ranked defense in college football.
content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/football/ncaaf/stats/team-total-defense

2. Our defense seems to improve each week.

The part about Miles that I didn't understand is why he seems to never keep the read option - is that him or the coaches? If you're going to use a QB who is not the greatest passer but is athletic, let him or make him run.

The game could have gone either way.

I'm sick of losing, period. Like you said, the game could have gone either way. But, the Huskies didn't do the little things that could have given them a real chance at winning. I'm tired of perspective. When is this fucking program going to turn the corner and become a legitimate threat?

    I hear you.

I never really expected (or saw) the team improve during the year under Sark.

I think (or maybe just hope) I'm seeing it under Peterman.

    I guess we shall see.

Petersen will definitely teach fundamentals and coach up his players. But, he has his hands tied with the QB situation. The rest of the team could play lights-out, but these QBs are worthless. I can't see Miles improving, unless they can coach the panic out of him. Even then, his arms strength and accuracy are less than good. On top of that, the OL is still bad.

Petersen got impatient yesterday, due to the ineptitude on offense. He can't afford to get cute at midfield on 4th and 10. But, that's already been discussed here at least 23 times already.

As a game day coach, Petersen needs to get better. Otherwise, we're fucked.

How is it that other teams find coaches who bring them instant toughness and success? We've been wallowing in shit for too many years. It's time to turn this thing around fast or we have to wait until the next coaching hire. FYFMFE
I agree. We've basically plateaued from 2010 on. One might be able to argue we're a little better. I'd say we are, but we're still worse than Stanford and Oregon. He's being paid big bucks to figure it out. Bob Stoops took over a bad Oklahoma program (coaching wise anyway, they had good players). They went from 7 and 5 to national champions the second year. It's not unreasonable to expect UW to at least beat Oregon and make/win a P 12 championship in three years. Every team loses "too many" players in positions EVERY YEAR. It's just not an excuse for 7-5 and making New Mexico Bowls at this point.

It is premature to predict bowl eligibility. We are not playing with house money yet. But, a couple 4th quarter decisions yesterday looked like we were.

I think this is my problem with the bored right now.

I stopped caring about UW 10 years ago. I realize how long it's been since we've been good but I also haven't been beaten down by Ty. I haven't cared that UW lost since Air Force beat the shit out of them in Seahawks Stadium. The Stanford game yesterday was a hell of a lot better than that game.

You guys have to realize that Peterman has nothing to do with the last decade.

The battered wife metaphor gets used a lot around here. And it's perfect for right now. Y'all are acting like your ex husband used to beat the shit out of you. The problem is your new boyfriend hasn't. But you keep flinching every time he gets near you.

In summation; lose the baggage. Y'all gotta get over it. And let it fucking play out.
    Some obligatory fixes.

Sorry, you lost me here. Miles's mechanics are not pretty. And he definitely showed a lot of panic against Stanford. But it bears repeating:

To put it another way, UW will not play another defense that good for the rest of the (regular) season. And to me, UW's defense looked the equal of Stanford's yesterday. Let that sink in.

In four career starts against lesser defenses, Miles has directed the offense to 69, 59, 44, and 45 points. Including the 13-point dreckfest yesterday, that's still an average of 46.0 ppg. Miles looked very poised in extended duty against solid UCLA and BYU defenses last year as well.

Even if Miles can for some reason only muster 36.0 ppg from here on out, that's still a very comfortable margin for this defense to work with.

    TSINO.

Those point totals include points scored by the defense and are against the worst defenses they will see, by far.

As for last year, the had a running game with Sankey that needed to be respected. Without that, miles is in a whole different situation.

Bob Stoops went 7-5 ... Saban went 8-4

As APAG ... Peterman had nothing to do with any of the bullshit we, as a fan base, have been through the last 10 years.

    I'm willing to LIFPO ...

    10 wins or GTFO
