have black communities ever tried diplomacy?

Gets little attention as being unlawful. its just predictable now and socially acceptable. I for one, and as a law abiding American, am sick and tired of it. did I rob Best Buy when juice got aquitted?

Everything always turns into a racial issue, but the real issue here is the nationwide militarization of local police forces. There is no more friendly neighborhood cop who protect, serve and help their community. They are being taught to patrol their streets like it's Fallujah. I read stories every day of police shooting unarmed citizens for asking why they're being arrested then lying that they were fighting back, tasering 70 year old women, shooting dogs just because they're there, tear gassing obvious peaceful protestors. It's sad.

Have you seen parts of St. Louis?DugtheDoog said:like it's Fallujah.
Joking aside, St. Louis is consistently ranked as once of the most dangerous cities in the US (think it last won the "prize" in 2010). And if you really think those people rioting really care about the 18 year old kid that was shot and if you think having a 'friendly, neighborhood policeman' around the last couple of years would have stopped it from happening than the genetic pool hasn't done you any favors. Its a cultural, historic, systemic problem that is not being addressed by anybody.
I won't even ask where you get your reading material. It happens...police are people too and by definition are anything but perfect. But its not nearly as frequent as you'd like to believe and is nothing compared the daily incidents of things being done against them. And it sure as hell isn't an excuse for mobs rioting, looting, and doing all sorts of other things.DugtheDoog said:I read stories every day of police shooting unarmed citizens for asking why they're being arrested then lying that they were fighting back, tasering 70 year old women, shooting dogs just because they're there, tear gassing obvious peaceful protestors. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but there are more than a million police officers in the US (if you believe wiki). Continuing on the made-up wiki stats there are something like 2,000 incidents a year of legit police brutality in comparison to 13 million arrests last year (according to the FBI website). And cop cars now have cameras rolling 24/7 to record everything, police are fitted for cameras, etc., etc.MikeDamone said:

No, they shouldn't riot. 2000 instances a year is a lot. That's more than enough to back my claim that it happens every day. And what is "legit" police brutality. The ones that are proven? Leaving out the ones that get covered up by the code of silence?HoustonHusky said:

There was an incident a couple weeks ago in Vancouver. A guy was wanted on a restraining order violation and some other warrant for a minor crime. He was living with a women in her house. Swat team come in, uses tear gas and stun grenades, puts the woman's life and her kids life at risk and leaved the house she owns uninhabitable.
The guy gets picked up and if he ever does any jail time for what he is arrested for, it will be very little.
People will say that she shouldn't have a boyfriend that has warrants and restraining order... I say bullshit, she might not have even known about them and even if she did, she has the right to date who she wants to. She committed not crime, but was left with no place to live. That's the kind of shit that is going on.
This from yesterday:

The cops have become a bunch of overzealous military wannabes who like playing tough guy. The approachable, friendly policeman are harder to find than in the past.

A lot of shit doesn't get reported. They may have cameras, but those cameras only film what is directly in front of the car. Jails are another problem. I sympathize for cops. I certainly wouldn't want to be a cop in a big, urban city, but many cops are dicks. The nature of the profession attracts a certain type of person. Who would want to get people in trouble, sometimes ruining lives, breaking up families, etc?HoustonHusky said:

A lot of armchair law enforcers hiding behind computer screens here, If you ever get robbed you're going to want that cop to show up 4 hours later and tell you they don't give a shit.

You can't expect them to get there on time when they are tasering some drunk dude peeing on the side of a building. Funny you should mention that. I had a car broken into and called the police. They told me to go online and fill out a report. I told them no, that was their job and they needed to come out and take the report. They said they didn't have an officer that could do it for a couple hours. I said fine. I'll be waiting. Cop finally comes out, first question he asks is if I have insurance. I asked what did that have to do with anything? He said they likely would never find my stuff and at least I could get it replaced. I asked him if they were going to look and he said no.RaceBannon said:A lot of armchair law enforcers hiding behind computer screens here, If you ever get robbed you're going to want that cop to show up 4 hours later and tell you they don't give a shit.

This could be a result of the Iraq War...how many guys came back from that shit-show and became police officers?
And while I'd never dream of going to East St. Louis, it sounds like cop simply lost it. Even if the kid somehow got leverage on the cop prior to the shooting, I don't know how the cop can defend firing multiple shots at him when he was 10-15 yards away (from what I've read).
The looting is inexcusable because it reinforces negative stereotypes of blacks. It also saddens me that, practically each time this kind of deadly incidents happen, it seems like the parents aren't married (different last names). From what I've read, Asian-Americans and whites have the highest marriage rates and the lowest out-of-wedlock births while blacks and latinos are the opposite. Bringing a child into the world without two parents immediately puts that child behind the 8 ball and makes his / her odds of succeeding in life worse. -
