I wasn’t paying attention on my flight but I saw one lady that was an absolute smoke show going through the TSA line

    Opus

This was a movie billed last summer as the next great A24/Neon horror movie along with Talk To Me/Bring Her Back.

It's safe to say that the critics calling this "Mid Midsommar" are not completely wrong, although it reminded me a lot of The Menu as well (didn't like that movie at all).

The biggest difference is John Malkovich, the setting and commentary on pop-culture. A lot of the movie takes place in the middle of the day and tries to replicate the underlying tension from Midsommar, and it does feel a bit cheap and predictable.

I think the other reason that Midsommar is so much better than this is due to some things that set the table so much better. Having a horrible tragedy happen at the beginning of that film, and the other shitty things surrounding the protagonist felt much more fresh than this.

Holy fucking shit this movie is elite.

I will be really interested to see how this stands the test of time. Borrows from like 6-7 really really good movies from the past 8 or so years and weaves something that is hard to pin down but doesn't waste a single second of runtime. It's fucked up and has its share of squirmy gore but it's just great setup, amazing story, everything well put together, some decent humor and music.

This is not like any of the true horror movies that were in the previews. It's a town and place that wants to be interesting to the viewer more than it wants to be another depressing, sadistic hellhole.

Actually the vibe isn't much like the previews either, and unlike Longlegs they did an amazing job of keeping the appearance of the antogonist hidden from the public. If this movie does what I think it will, it will probably be a very easily recognizable cult classic villain.

I was surprised at just how well the story was put together, and not expecting the format that they chose.

Watched a couple episodes of How to Sell Drugs Online (fast) on Netflix.

Kind of funny German series. Teen angst, ecstasy and the interwebs

Always looking for the 24 minute filler shows - will watch some more.

Yeah I was on X about people are starting to get the knives out about "what that premise was about". School shootings was a popular idea but there's some people that were trying to say it's about parents keeping their kids from wanting to be trans.

I will say that I didn't get any of that from the film. It's just a good lynchian horror story with a bunch of flawed characters trying to figure out wtf is going on in the town.

    Sinners:

I thinks it's a creative premise, and some memorable moments (the vampires dancing to this Irish song around the barn, taunting them) and some very good cinematography. It's an immersive film.

I'm just not into the message, and the first 108 minutes definitely should have been edited down.

The vampires individually are your typical god tier invincible killers when there's just a few of them, but then when it's time to fight ~10 humans against 50+ of them all the sudden they go down to just regular bullets and shells.

The main bad guy vampire did a better job in the movie than both Michael B Characters. He was the highlight of it. Haley Steinfeld was also great in the movie and obviously a smoke show, also like Smoke's estranged wife in it as well.

Oh my God. Having seen both of these within the last 72 hours, Sinners is NOT. Even close. To a horror movie.

One movie's RT score is complete horseshit and one is not (although it hasn't been out long enough to be picked apart).
