Hardcore Husky Podcast: Could UW Football become the Gonzaga of the new Zombie Pac-12?

DerekJohnsonDerekJohnson Administrator, Swaye's Wigwam Posts: 63,197 Founders Club
The boys discuss the future of Husky Football while pondering if the Huskies could possibly be strengthened by a weakened Pac-12 as opposed to suffering along with it. Today's show opens with a recreation of a December 2013 exchange between Pup and He_Needs_More_Time (aka "Cockus").

Football is not basketball. Non-power conference teams don’t accomplish anything in football like they do in basketball.

If UW doesn’t get out of the PAC within about the next two months (or by whatever point UW would be forced to sign a Grant of Rights), UW football is permanently doomed. Period. End of story.

Whatever happens Oregon and Washington just need to prison rape the Pac 12 and remind Jason Scheer and all the Ute fans that still have 🌹's in their Twitter handles that they're headed back to the fucking WAC if they aren't given a high enough % of revenue to remain nationally competitive.

Most of the other schools such as WSU, Cal, and Beavlet already have their kneepads out, just need to teach the shit "4 corners" losers now.

We need to bolt for the ACC if a Big 10 invitation isn’t coming. We can’t stay in the PAC under any circumstances whatsoever.

The acc is on shaky ground too. That does no good. Combining two lower tier money makers doesn’t make more money unless you drop some dead weight. Same shitty bandaid. NEM until the big 10 and sec decide to expand.

The ACC is not economically feasible.

If the top pac and top acc schools wanted to do this, then sure. If we are helping support wazzu, the beav and wake forests of the world to be 1/2 of the sec or big 10 contracts, no thanks. Better just stay in our or own shitty poor conference than create another one with far away lands.

I remember a time when the big 12, pac 12 and acc signed a alliance that they were pat hill tough to threaten the big 10 and sec. Those were great times and amounted to zero. I am sure a PR agency was paid for it though.

I remember when the Pac 12 was going to follow the science and have a player's union and work for social justice instead of having a season in 2020

Then the B1G said never mind we're playing and the Pac 12 had to scramble for a 4 game season for some teams while others just rooted for Oregon to rep the North

Jen is right back in the crosshairs and this off season natty won't save her

Football just doesn't mean more. Or much at all. My guess is UW stays in a shitty Pac whatever and we all die
    Better seats for me!

Prestige wise connecting with Clemson, Florida State and Miami would be much better than the castoffs of the Big 12. A second tier of North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pitt and Louisville isn't bad either. Maybe even get Notre Dame to join.

I don't know how it logistically works though and if it's just a window dressing alliance I don't know if that means anything. Maybe selling a conference championship game between the Pac (West Division) and the ACC (East Division) helps.

Have you been paying any attention to the PAC’s TV offers? The PAC’s TV offers are something like $20-25 million, with most games on some service like Apple TV that’s even less accessible than the PAC network.

Even the ACC and Big 12 would be less terrible than that. And we’re not going to the Big 12 because of academics.

I don’t think people on here have realized just how terrible the PAC’s tv contract is going to be.

So if the pac12 schools add themselves to the acc, that magically makes them worth more? The acc already has a similar deal. Clemson and fsu are gone at first chance.

The only way this works is if the top acc schools and top pac 12 schools drop the anchors that produce nothing and form a new conference.

Highly unlikely given the exit fees and politics involved. But carry on asking if anyone understands the difference between us and the rich kids.
