Can we offer this Ukranian solider a scholarship?

The other side will have the same weapons. The winning side will be the one that kills enough of their enemy so they quit, same as it ever was. It's better to be on the winning side. Mankind has gone to war because they think they can win. Sometimes they do - Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, the Romans, the English and sometimes they don't - Napoleon, Hitler, Imperial Japan and the US since World War II.

The earth’s landmass is for all intents and purposes finite and who controls what percentage of it has existed in all of human history. Why Russia taking small regions of Ukraine at massive losses of life is supposedly so important for global safety has to be tied to the finances of those in power in the West. In reality, so what? The Soviet empire ended up being a paper tiger and it was better-funded financially and more strategic geographically than this little border skirmish today’s Russia isn’t at all dominating.
Russian tanks aren’t rolling into Warsaw anytime soon, warmongers.
-
Sounds like it's a good thing they are all killing each other still then.
-
Everything is going to plan. ROI’s and shredding’s are through the roof. Victory is in site.
-
I mean even the Russian propagandists are criticizing what it cost them to take Avdivka. (You know, that tiny town on the existing border that took them years to take)
The Kremlin is responding by killing anyone that says it but still.
This has completely devolved to WW1 trench attrition warfare. Should do wonders for Russian ambitions to dominate in a new multipolar world.
That was the sound of another irreplaceable AWAC crashing.
-
Yes, as I’ve said repeatedly, the Russian army getting decimated by struggling to beat a bunch of middle-aged Ukrainians shows how ridiculous the notion is that they will soon be getting the old Soviet gang back together. It’s an illogical argument. Russian tanks aren’t going to be rolling into Warsaw. There are some legitimate reasons to fund Ukraine, but those saying it’s to prevent the comeback of the Soviet Union are doing so either to fool dumb people, or they are idiots themselves who do not understand why NATO exists.
I may even argue that more aggressive military actions by the West against Russia in Ukraine will make China more willing to fully support Moscow if things escalate in non-NATO Ukraine.
-
I know you have openly a different perspective, which is to have a long bloody stalemate and don't give a fuck about the save democracy narrative in Ukraine (I'm with you on the last part). But Americans like wars that we are on the winning side of. This thing was always going to collapse quickly once the narrative of Ukraine actually winning was shown to have always been a pipe dream. This whole thing has been humiliating.
-
You are welcome to find where I've ever made those arguments.
The current Russian regime is intent on the overthrow of the Western world order and the US system. In no realistic scenario were they doing that by putting the Warsaw pact back on the map.
Look around at how the demoralization progrum campaign is going though.
-
If the intent is to overthrow the west Biden is doing his part by keeping the money flowing to Russia and cementing the Russia China alliance against the west. Selling them the rope to hang us as Lenin put it
From day 1 i said if you have Vindman, Obama, Romney and the EU on your side youre on the wrong fucking side
It is a humiliation

I was speaking in general. Mea culpa for quoting you.
As @Bob_C just stated, even the Democrat voters who jumped on the bandwagon are tired of it. Ukraine flags are a much more rare site on the social today than they were two years ago, and the “Palestine” flag seems to be the new virtue signaling craze for the Cool Kids.
-
Putin's stated strategic objectives were to overthrow the Ukrainian regime and establish a pro-russian regime, "demilitirize" Ukraine to establish a pseudo buffer state, and "stop Nato expansion".
As much as many Tug isolationists want to ignore world politics and influence our enemies don't. And they are our enemies make no mistake.
Russia signed up for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam all rolled into one at once on their border. They'll be occupied with this for a generation if it doesn't cause the collapse of the regime instead of fucking around with us in Africa and the Middle East while fabricating Intel for the Dems.
Fingers crossed the PLA decides to invade Vietnam again.
-
All that could be true in the end. Though I'm not sure we want the even crazier people than Putin running that government.
I keep asking the question of why are they our enemy though? They've never attacked us or any other NATO countries, their economy doesn't compete with ours, they haven't overthrown the Mexican government. We support plenty of authoritarian regimes that kill opposition and journalists. The only material thing that explains it is the anti-Russian industrial complex crew that gets paid for Russia to be declared our forever enemy.
Appreciate your viewpoint which is actually a sound argument, unlike the shit posting that started this thread. We need to save their democracy, Russia is going into Poland next, Ukraine is winning, pennies on the dollar, etc.

MAGA and Russia is the new axis of evil.
-
Definitely not yours, Joe.
I wonder how the Far Left pro-Hamas fanatics will hear this message, even if I’m guessing it will be about Ukraine funding and that shitty border bill that legalizes some illegal immkgration. -
Fuck new vanilla quote function. Re to @Bob_C
MAYBE there was an alternative in the 90's or early 2000's. That's two decades ago now though.
Putin hates the US for the collapse of the USSR. Go read a Russian defense paper. They've actively fought to tear down the US. You aren't fixing that until regime change.
Completely correct that his replacement might be worse. Doesn't mean we should prop him up.
100% the dems use Russia as the boogeyman while taking money from Russian oligarchs.
Just like Chyna that doesn't mean they aren't actually our enemies too.
Peace through strength.
Also appreciate the people that can make cogent arguments even if i disagree.

A mouse can roar at a lion all he wants and lob all sorts of threats, but in the end he’s still a mouse. Iranian leadership hates the USA as much as anyone, yet we give them billions that was owed to the Shah’s government and they use it to fund terrorism against US targets and allies. Very few people seem to care about them at all.
As I posted earlier, Putin’s struggling to defeat a bunch of janitors and insurance salesman handed off the street a few months ago, yet I’m supposed to believe Russia is even a threat to neighboring NATO countries, let alone the USA?
-
You can check the records. I was FOR smoking solemani. RIP @ThomasFremont
Some here are still pinching their garters over WW3.
Peace through strength. Fuck around and find out.
-
Right again. Several folks had this on page 1
-
The rebuild contracts is why we want to win so much.
-
Have the nukes dropped yet?
I hear Russia finally captured that town of 10,000 people on their own border after 7 years. Impressive.
-
The October Spring offensive SHREDDED.
-
When are the United States rebuild contracts scheduled to start?
The contracts IN the US?
-
That was the Ukrainian counter offensive in summer of 2022. Russia lost virtually all hope of capturing Kharkiv and lost the entire city of Kherson. Insanely incompetent. Shredded.
-
Check the tape. You were pumping it up last year as late as July. You listened to the wrong sources.
-
I knew this was all bullshit when the media started pushing some made-up “Ghost of Kiev” to try and be the modern Red Baron. Even the Ukraine military told them to stop the nonsense because it was too unbelievable to rational people.
Some claims about the “Ghost of Kyiv” that went viral lately and other recent “urban legends” were just officially debunked.
-
Yes I thought Ukraine counter offensive 2.0 would go better but Russia finally displaced a modicum of competence.
Prior to that? Shredded
-
the idea that Ukraine was ever going to win this war was a fairytale for children.
This was a cash grab for the MIC and that’s it.
What a total waste of time and money. Our money.
-
let’s list the major foreign conflicts we’ve involved ourselves in over the last 50 years
Vietnam
El Salvador/Nicaragua
Afghanistan 1
Beruit
Kuwait
Somalia
Bosnia
Afghanistan/Iraq
Ukraine
Pretty shitty success rate on that list. Everything in the 60s/70s/80s were Cold War era proxy battles with Vietnam obviously being the largest loss of blood and money. Reagan was willing and able to spend and bleed out the USSR without losing American lives after LBJ and Nixon failed badly in SE Asia.
Kuwait was about oil. That much is painfully obvious. George HW wasn’t going to allow Hussein to control that market in the ME and we lost blood and money there.
Somalia and Bosnia were mostly humanitarian initiatives during the Clinton admin. Minimal loss of life on our side but plenty of money spend
Then you had the “war on terror” that became another war for oil for W and Cheney. More lives. More money.
Then this latest mess in Ukraine, which is nothing more than a pay day for weapons manufacturers and a corrupt tin pot dictator and his buddies in Washington DC
Kudos to Joe for getting his payday without getting a bunch of American troops killed at least. We’d spent out Afghanistan and needed a new conflict to get the dollars flowing again. Blue and yellow flags on Twitter tell me it’s going great.
