First off, let's clean a few things up here guysm...you don't "smoke" ribs, rather, you BBQ them with low indirect heat and some smokey goodness comes from the wood/charcoal you use to provide said indirect heat. Hams, salmon, etc are thing that are smoked.whatshouldicareabout said:
Yes, smoker will get you better ribs than crock pot, but only done if done right. The best ribs I've ever had are from a smoker, but I've also had too many dry ribs. Maybe not wrapping it in foil early enough or not using enough sauce or whatever.whlinder said:

Your missing out. Crock pot ribs are better than any other method.DerekJohnson said:
A decade ago I worked at a mortgage company and at the Xmas party won a raffle and received a crock pot. It's still in the box. LOLchuck said:I'm told by my son that the best use of his air fryer is quickly reheating leftovers that you want to be crisp. It sounded legit, and I picked one up, but haven't used it yet after almost a year.
How does one even fit a full rack in a crockpot?
Crocks are more consistent since they trap in the moisture and never dry out and since you're cooking it in a sauce, you can get different flavor profiles. Try it with pineapple juice
Crocks don't give you burnt ends though, so that's a negative
Edit: they have different sizes and shapes, so there are large oblong ones that can fit a full rack. The normal small tower ones wouldn't
Second, people that suck at BBQ ribs (e.g., letting them get dried out) are not an argument in favor of the crock pot IMHO. Crock pots excel at braising meats, but not BBQing them. IFL crock pots for so many things, but I will die on the hill of their not being suitable for ribs.

Rub & smoke for however long you like on Traeger.
Remove and pop in the Instapot with a cup of apple cider vinegar & whatever BBQ sauce one likes, enough to mostly cover ribs.
Cook on high pressure for 45min.
Shit falls apart.
And air fryer kicks ass for the proper applications. -
I was talking with my mom a few days ago about microwaves and how we remembered when they were a new thing. Her parents were the first ones she knew who bought one, and they insisted on cooking the Thanksgiving turkey in it. I guess we were there though I don't remember the incident.DerekJohnson said:How about some microwave hawt talk????
The turkey was not top notch, according to her. Actually she said it was inedible and everyone left hungry. She's older than the hills and doesn't always remember things perfectly clearly, but I believe her on this. -
Mom Throbber used the shit out of the crock pot.
She’d throw shit in there that was never intended to be put in a crock pot. Like full plates of food. And then leave them on low all day while she was at work.
It wasn’t special eating dried out rolls and roast that almost quailed as jerky by the end of the day.

Frankly, everything I've ever had on a Traeger has always been 25% less smoky versus anything I've done on my Weber grill.YellowSnow said:

I have no doubt about that. The tim savings for me is well-worth the smoke delta. I'm not getting up at 2am to check the fire box. Just won't.BleachedAnusDawg said:

There are some ways to work around timing, like using the snake method to get a solid 8 hours of burn at a time, but still gotta check it and reload. Definitely not a convenience.GrundleStiltzkin said:

Weber Kettle Grill ribs are fantastic if done right. I start mine on the Weber with indirect heat (Kingsford and water soaked hickory chips) to get some smokey goodness for a few hrs, then move them over to Weber Propane grill (again in direct heat) for a few more hrs to get the tenderness and exterior bark. The advantage here is you're getting some charcoal heat to start which is still the best way to cook ribs.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I have both and to a charcoal grill, open pit, ect…
This is a conversation that won’t ever be agreed upon amongst a crowd but there’s no arguement that an outdoor wood grill of any sort ain’t the best burger cooker, deer, pork, beef, dgaf…
Far as an “air fryer”…I have a Ninja XL that’s a little better than the basic “air fryer(they’re good for pizza, biscuits and shit) and it really don’t do bad if you don’t want to get in to a lot of grill smoke or burn the gas on propane and wanna do it indoors vs cold or raining…
Cooked burgers of all types, chicken, fish and even a couple steaks in the Ninja XL.. and wasn’t bad, just non smoked and cooked, bout it. But an “air fryer”? Meh…maybe bread and biscuits or some shit, nothing real good…

My kid was telling my wif how cool an air fryer is - so of course she bought one. I've been using it here and there, and it works pretty damn well. Last night I made a Dungeness crab and sharp cheddar sammich in it, and man that fucker was good! The crabbing on the coast last weekend was just ridiculous - so I've been eating crab for days.
I've also been using it for pizza bread, lumpia, roasted vegetables and about every kind of potato you want to throw in there. -
My old smokin' pit made the best smoked salmon I've ever had. I'd start the little alder log fire (about the size of a 2 quart bowl) at about 6pm, stoke and restock it once at about 8, then let it go until morning. The first time that happened, because I fell asleep accidentally, I went out in the morning expecting half cured, wasted fish. It was done though, and it was incredible. Perfect texture, moisture and smoke.GrundleStiltzkin said:

Fish is thin and easy though. The Green Mtn grill is 100X better and easier for most things and is plenty smoky.
I saw some huge dungies in my local grocery store last night for cheap. When I say huge I mean they were the biggest I had ever seen. They rarely get whole crab there and it has always been some advertised special event. I figured crabbing must be crazy good somewhere.dflea said:My kid was telling my wif how cool an air fryer is - so of course she bought one. I got some YUGE (like 2.5 lbs or maybe more) dungies from out fish store down the street. They were cheap (for White Wakanda) too. My fish guy said everyone on the Oregon coast has been catching shit ton of crab.chuck said:
