I just went to Liverpool for the first time last weekend to see The Darkness at a record store (great rock band, great small venue gig), and afterwards we went to The Cavern Club and their house Beatles band was playing and it totally ruled. Didn't feel touristy or gimmicky, even though it was probably both. It was awesome. If you are a Beatles fan you need to make the pilgrimage to Liverpool. Schedule your visit around when the band is playing (lots of non-Beatles bands play there).
The Beatles broke up before they were 30 years old. We suck at life, oh well.
