I look at trajectory more than anything. It's how you could tell Helfrich was a shit coach early on, despite good results. Helf's first few seasons at Oregon were very comparable to Shaws. He just crashed the ferrari faster. The slide into 8-4, 7-5 annually is coming for Stanford.Mosster47 said:

2011 - Lost to Notre Dame in the regular season, Lost to OSU in the Fiesta
2012 - Won the Rose against an 8-6 Wisconsin team
2013 - Lost to MSU in the Rose
2014 - Beat Maryland in the Foster Farms Bowl
2015 - Beat ranked Notre Dame in regular season and 12-2 Iowa in the Rose (lost to the only good teams they played)
2016 - Beat UNC in Sun Bowl
2017 - Lost to TCU in Alamo Bowl
Shaw's best non conference wins are Notre Dame a couple times, an 8-6 Wisconsin team, and Iowa... He's also had non conference losses to Northwestern and San Diego State. He gets credit for beating Oregon and USC while they were good, but that is a 7 year resume. Petersen didn't inherit Andrew Luck his first year and just hasn't had the opportunities for many marquee games.
BAMA and Penn State were better than Iowa, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame too HTH. -

He inherited a team with a few great players surrounded by shit. Did you see the QB depth chart? How about the defensive backfield? Rose Bowl wins count for a fucking lot. Two in 7 seasons ain’t bad. Sure He inherited a good team. But Stanford’s players have been all his for 3 years now. Shaw is the best, most accomplished PAC 12 coach during his tenure until He’s not.dawgs206 said:

Never said he wasn’t a good coach, just pointing out Shaw’s non conference wins haven’t been all that impressive either, considering he’s been here 7 years, which seemed to be the argument. Hell, Petersen had more impressive non conference / Bowl victories at Boise. Petersen hasn’t had many chances for a marquee win, and the chances he has had have been tougher games than the shit Shaw played OOC when it mattered. Shaw is definitely the most accomplished (not best) Pac-12 coach, but to say Petersen isn’t in his league is FS.salemcoog said:

Last season killed any chance for Petermen to unseat Shaw. That Stanford game was classic David Shaw. All he wants to do is win Pac 12 championships and at Stanford that is awesome

Fellow Rio dad comes from a furd family and is a season ticket holder for their crackerjack circus minimus. Every year he wants Shaw fired after their performance in the OOC games, and I have to reassure him that they'll have another quiet 10-win season. Their two dozen fans are bored with it all, which, as a long-suffering Cal fan, I just don't get.
