-Immediately moved from offense to defense despite stated wish to play offense. -Suspended for plagiarism. -Not drafted until third round despite starting from week 1 of his freshman season for a team that went to the national championship. (Wow, what a great development trajectory) -Cut in very first training camp. Highest draft pick to be waived. -Now a backup for the Bungles.
Now compare that to development of Sidney Jones, Budda Baker, Kevin King, Byron Murphy, Jordan Miller, Austin Joyner, Taylor Rapp etc under Jimmy Lake, Kwiatkowski, and Petersen.
Tough choice.
Whether or not to play db for uw is not a tough decision right now. The fact that no one wants to is ultimately on lake. That doesn't mean the decision the person and parents are making isn't stupid.

Only Russell lasted more than a year in the league. And he managed to get cut within a year and is a backup. Lyght has been the DB coach since 2015, and before that was in the NFL. He has shown no track record of being able to produce elite DB’s. So yes DB’s do suffer by going to ND, especially when compared with Washington.
Any DB who is choosing ND over UW is being sold a false bill of goods and is enamored with the brand. Frustrating to see, hopefully some of these kids can see through the ND sales pitch.

Since the date you mentioned, until this season, there was the BRIAN VAN GORDER factor. He had the 3 worst defensive years in ND’s history. His three seasons finished dead last in almost 130 years of football.
Bringing in Elko, Lea & Lyght moved ND from the bottom third defensively in the nation to the top quarter in the first year.
Trust me, I watched BVG ruin 5 Star careers. It was sickening. I never call for people to be fired, but I celebrated when he was.
