If he is successful and leaves who cares? The program is in a better place to hire someone with more money. Sounds like he was offered the job at Seton Hall and USC previously. Turned them down. An LA guy originally. "Everyone is saying" he's a great recruiter and great developer of talent. But an assistant in one place for 21 years?

Hopkins has been the "coach" at Syracuse for a while now. He ran recruiting and game planning. Boeheim was the CEO/ figurehead. I like this hire unless he goes right back to Syracuse in 2 years.

Word on the street was he was promised the head coaching job years ago, and Syracuse/Boeheim have renigged. Reports are that he had chances to move, but preferred to stay hoping he would be the Orange head coach in the near future
