Lambright had good defenses and TUFF teams. He set up Rick quite nicely.

Helfrich would piss all over himself to be Lambright.

Wait wait... I didn't mean that. Helfrich just needs time to get his guys in there and you need to extend his contract before Pat Haden hires him away.

Lambright was mediocre. Helfrich is horrible.

Must be a LEADER OF MEN.
Must be one of the following (a home run would be two of the following):
    Genius developer.
    Genius schemer.
    Genius recruiter.
Master of an unusual offensive system.
    I would look at:
Niumatalolo, Fleck, Baldwin, McIntyre, Kingsbury, Campbell (ISU), Wittllingham,
A couple of names that will not be popular but I would like to see what they could do here are Rich Rodriguez (little too old) and Charlie Strong. Getting Strong on the rebound from Texas might be getting an excellent coach/leader who is HIGHLY motivated and maybe still being paid by Texas.

If Helfrich had any balls, which I am guessing he does not, he would resign. The cheers would be heard 283 miles away. Our coaches are wimpy pussies and their time is over.

Hell no! If you have balls, you put up with the inevitable death threats and take all that money to the bank.

You should know it takes a coach time to get his own guys into the program. I don't think you realize the damage Chip did down there. Same when Carroll fled SC.

Helfrich is a good guy and over time will develop his winning culture. It takes patience.

Sorry Fenwick, I guess you're just going to have to stick it out for 17 years with Helf.

Be warned, that's the quookliest article that I've ever read. (Low bar, yadda yadda)

"Look at Chip Kelly’s three-plus years in the NFL. He may still prove himself successful with the 49ers, or another pro team after that. But many, including FishDuck.com stalwarts such as founder Charles Fisher and “Grizzled Old Coach” Mike Morris, see Helfrich innovating more with new plays for Oregon’s offense than Kelly has in Philadelphia or San Francisco. Could it actually be that behind the grand vision of a no-huddle blur offense and the ensuing cult of personality Oregon fans and the media have given Kelly, that Helfrich was his secret weapon?"

    @Canard writes for FishQuook.

    Case closed.

"But David Shaw went 7-6 and then won the Rose Bowl."

That argument will still be valid after this season when Peterman goes from 7-6 to winning the Pac-12.

"Yet even if Oregon doesn’t win another game this year, the retention of Helfrich is such a no-brainer that in a certain respect I regret even dignifying it with this post. Yet defending Helfrich has to be done, because the clamor for his head has become surprisingly deafening for this early in the season."

    Christ, were Doogs this doogly?

They have a test case on what not to do right in front of them (Us?) and yet they still don't get it. Already seeing the "but who would you hire" excuses.

Belotti said Oregon built it's program in the image of Washington's early 90's teams. Tracking along, this is Oregon's 2003. Fire Helfrich, hire a worse coach, then fire him and hire some castaway for political reasons like UW did. Enjoy the remainder of the decade.

The Ernie to Altman thing should be proof enough.

Ohio State is the greatest example. They were awesome under Tress, went like 6-6 with the one season under that Adam Sandler looking guy, and have lost like five games under Urban Meyer.

College football is about the head coach and the QB. If you have one you're not bad, if you have both you're a juggernaut.
Unless you're Nick Saban. Then you don't need a quarterback.
