Before Romar was hired, no Washington basketball coach had taken the team to more than three NCAA tournaments. Romar has gone to six in the past 13 years. (and most never had a Pac-12 tourney to use as a way to get in. For sure 1 maybe 2 of teams that got it would not have without winning the Pac-12 tourney. Take those away and now it's only 4 or 5 out of 13 years)
UW treats men's BB like Mariner's ownership treats product on field:
Don't completely suck, don't be an embarrassment. Anything above that is a bonus.
And yes, he still sucks.

I know this year recruiting class isn't a Kentucky class, but it isn't in a different solar system from one of theirs either. Number 6 in the nation. Think Coach K or Calipari would have lost to Santa Barbara with this team?
Izzo would have had a couple Final Fours with the teams Romar has had...and made the dance like 10 out of twelve years. I firmly believe that.

For those that use the whole "what was the program before Romar" argument in looking at relevance ... how many people are showing up to watch the games now? In other words, they aren't relevant now. So what Romar has really done is taken a program from irrelevant, made it somewhat relevant, pushed his chips into the middle for one and done guys, failed, and now has turned the program relatively irrelevant again.
Nobody fucking cares what Pete did at Boise junior college anymore. So far he is a total failure at UW. However, Romar has had some highlights at the Pac-12 level (conference championships, tournament runs). Levels of success Pete hasn't even sniffed while coaching at the big boy table.
That is pretty fucking sad when you think about it. Romar is better than Petersen. And Romar should be coaching at some private 1A church high school at best.
But, as always, I support coach Romar. -
