Chun also probably doesn't want to give Fisch a substantial raise until he actually wins a big game by out coaching the other side.

This might be the greatest comment you've ever made here.

I'm confused are we suggesting the only options are fire him or backup the brinks truck?
What's wrong with LIPO

The new Wild West portal era says you are probably better off doing one of those extremes vs the middle ground which was previously the rationale decision. This unsustainable paradox is what will ultimately drive us towards a super conference with collective bargaining.

This.
And if he performs next year you overpay him. I also was hoping we would see some scheme and execution advantages from his offensive system here at uw. Definitely has not been the case. In fact. The side of the ball he relinquishes control of is the one that shows the most optimism.

I think you get him inside the top 20, whatever that number is now. Last year I think he was 17 or 18. With all the new contract extensions and raises I think he may be outside the top 20. Push him to somewhere around 15th nationally (8.3- 8.5 million or so should do that) and lock up his staff especially RB, WR and DB, so he can take care of his assistants. Sign Walters to a 3 year deal and pay that man top 5 coordinator money. If you want to be a playoff team or a top 4 B10 team pay your staff like one.
-
This is the answer. Walters especially needs to be paid

Chun didn’t hire Fisch, so there’s that. FWIW. Not that Chun would do anything anyway, but Fisch isn’t exactly Chun’s guy.

Why change Fischs contract right now? He's a Maryland comeback away from being on the hot seat so if Michigan wants to pay his buyout for him to leave then that seems at worst fairly neutral for the program
