Why leave now? I gave up on the NBA when the sonics bailed, the M’s since 2004, I have a mild interest in the Seahawks. The last 7 or 8 years of Husky football has been better than the previous 10. We are going into a conference that cares, we’ve knocked on Nattys door a couple tims. The last 8 months have sucked, but cmon
it isn't only the salary that a good coach wants. these guys want to win. the UW needs to commit to building out the AD. the infrastructure is woefully inadequate to match what is needed to win consistently. other football programs have guarantees about the size of staff. it part of the salary package. the staff size at alabama is unreal. more analysts, more coaches on the field, etc.
it is similar to usc. the entire school (including main campus) needs to be pulling the same direction. it doesn't appear that is happening. all of the best schools are doing it.
the UW needs to accept that they can be an academically prowess school, while also being a sports school. but they aren't serious. do potential donors think the UW is serious?
I think they do but DeBoer leaving after only two years was a blow. Tough to really build something consistent when UW has had 4 head coaches in the past 5 years.
@HFNY...I think the answer is no. In retrospect I felt it as soon as Deboer announced. It wasn't even disappointment over him, though I felt plenty of it. It's something that was building without me realizing it. Deboer was just what finally tipped the scale.
This isn't the same college football I used to love. I don't blame anyone for sticking with it or even liking the new version better. It just doesn't appeal to me the same way.
It is what it is. Maybe it will turn around but it won't be this season and probably not next.
That's fair. I'm hoping the NIL changes next year will help and ideally the players agree not to jump around every year. That should be part of the negotiation.
I'm not going to act like I wouldn't be somewhat more enthused if UW was 8-0 or at least 6-2. Still wouldn't be the same. Last year really felt like it was going to be the final year for much of what still felt like what I loved about college football and even a team like Michigan feels like we'll never see them again.
One of the only things I had thought might be cool about the portal and NIL was seeing more instate guys transfer back but that's not even happening.
If the Huskies were 6-2 instead of 4-4 would it make a difference?
A slight difference TBH. I’m tired of starting over and tired of a segment of fanbase and a soft administration willing to bend over and accept starting over and rebuilding. Being 6-2 doesn’t guarantee we will be 6-2 or better after 8 games next year. It’s going to take a couple years to be consistent and I feel like we’ll be starting over after year three again.
These little changes won't help anything. The portal is the bigger problem to me anyway. Buying a recruiting class of high school players, which supposedly happened all the time anyway, really was much different. You still had to develop them and guys didn't pan out, had injuries, etc, and it created some cycles, unless you were fucking Saban. Now buying proven players has changed everything.
If we're basically going to make it minor leagues, why not have a draft at this point? One thing of some of the bs narratives that never gets brought up is that unlike pros and minor leagues, you at least get a say in where you played once in college.
Those are good points and they may not. As I understand it, the $22 million is the hard cap and then the soft cap is from boosters. That money can't be $1 million for doing a 30 second commercial for a local carpet cleaning company because that is not the going rate. There will be a 3rd party commission that will review the promotional deals. But if anyone has more / better details, please correct me if I'm wrong.
The main thing is UW needs to find a coach who is good enough to stay 5 seasons or more but also likes what is going on enough to spurn big SEC schools and the NFL. Petersen stayed 6 seasons but NIL grossed him out so he retired.
Another thing is stability at the AD level. If the AD changes too much, a good coach won't want to stick around either.
He is a butt hurt jilted lover about the DeBoer situation, and he is also downplaying a program that has had a lot of success in the last 10 years. Two playoff appearances with a win and a natty appearance is nothing to sneeze at, and playoff appearances will mean less moving forward with tripling the field.
But, UW is less serious than they need to be to avoid seasons like this one, 2021, and 2019. Every aspect of the athletic department needs to be improved. He is dead on about that. Spend money to make money is never not true.

It’s mostly college football in general

He hired Nick Saban's agent because he was going to the SEC. He could have kept his previous agent to get more money from UW.
In your estimation, how much would UW have had to increase their $9 million offer to DeBoer and spurn Alabama's $10 million and loaded roster?
Ditto. I can't even sit down and watch a UW game, let alone someone else.
I didn't plan it. I didn't expect it. It just happened. I have no fucks to give. I tried to find some.
I was a fan for 33 years. That's a pretty good chunk I guess. It was a good run.

What NIL changes are coming? Are you talking about the $22 million revenue sharing?
That still doesn’t prevent an NIL collective from paying a player above what the revenue sharing pays.

If you're going to play the game then play the damn game

I'm right. Period
Yeah I want the coach who went 25-3 and played for the natty
That seems normal to me. Your need to invent a false narrative about it speaks volumes
Enjoy the quest for 8 and 4 in a few years under your boy Fisch
10 wins by year 3 or tarmac
You would've fired DJ and Peterlips after year 2, yeah yeah we know
Year 3
Fuck off
