I think you're downplaying PSU. Take away the pedo shit and that's still a program I'm really considering being a fan over UW. Part of the reason UW has cracked higher levels the past 10 years could be PSU happened to have Michigan and Ohio State teams in their conference UW wouldn't have gotten past either.
There's an appeal to the true college program too with them and the 100,000 stadium. I think the city big time college football program is better though and it's sad the sport has evolved to work against that. There's something about big games and the setting in Husky Stadium and The Coliseum that feels different and closer to an NFL environment where a small town even if it's a big program feels more like NASCAR. I'm not talking about Miami now or Pitt or Cal or some shit, playing in an NFL team's stadium, etc.
Not meaning to downplay PSU; they're technically my #2 college football team since my kid goes there and I end up going to a game per year at least.
It is fair that they've had the tOSU juggernaut to get past for a decade now, while the P12 hasn't had a program of that caliber since Carrol's USC teams. Michigan got there as well the past 3 years but Franklin has no evidence of being able to get to that level of program. It's a good program but they just cannot get the top rung.
