It may not pass 2016 but its ceiling is definitely higher. Never once did I think 2016 had what it took to win the national title (2000 either). This team does.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Im loving this season, but this team has a ways to go to surpass 2016.
They have the pieces to do so but lets not crown their ass yet.
That said, this is YEAR TWO of Deboner and we need to lock this guy up
Not saying we Natty, don’t twist. Lots of things still have to go right. But this team has all the key pieces to pull it off if if things break right. It’s our most talented team since 1997 and it doesn’t have a dumbass on the sidelines. -
Probably won’t go undefeated. The schedule is much thicker than 1991. But if Penix can stay healthy the NC is in play.vadawg said:
This team is not at that level. Fun to watch but not even close. No way this team goes undefeated….unfortunately. Take screen shots mother fuckers.dnc said: -
Penix is in his second year and has 5 of the top 10 all time passing games in school historyPostGameOrangeSlices said:
This is getting awfully Eason beating EWU for me...RaceBannon said:Penix >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Browning

Funny, Cal is coming up too
LIPO and Ill crown their ass if we win the conference
Some of you people are fucking retarded
The Huskies shriveled up against USC and Bama like little bitches on offense
Fuck defense. Didn't help Bama beat Clemson that year did it
This qb and team are far better -

It’s all about girth.

The DAWGS need to win the conference and win a meaningful bowl game to surpass a #4 finishRaceBannon said:

Cant crown them...yet. Take care of business -
i still havent recovered from whatever year of pete it was that i watched the most boring offensive football product ive ever seen.

Defense is nowhere near 2016 levels.
I think the talent across the board is greater on 2016.
Can Penix and the motivated fat Boner make up the difference?
Stay tuned. -
If Deboer and Grubb were coaching the '16 team I might take that roster over '23, but probably would just rather have Penix. With the Petersen offense, not a chance I would take '16.
-
Observing on my end, as others have said, from what I've seen the defense isn't at 2016's level. But your? passing offense is on a different level from 2016.
Anyone who'd want to watch Brownsocks throw up another noodle instead of Penix is brain damaged. -
We may never have that good of a secondary again, but offense is king these daysDucksFC said:Observing on my end, as others have said, from what I've seen the defense isn't at 2016's level. But your? passing offense is on a different level from 2016.

Deshaun Watson beat 2016 Bama
What good was the Huskies defense holding Bama to 17 when Browning gave them 7 more and only scored 7?
Pete then thought he had a great defense for three more years and lost every big game he played
-
Sounds like you're saying Bama's defense won the dayRaceBannon said:Deshaun Watson beat 2016 Bama

The Pac 12 is as good as it's been in 15 or 20 years. I'd calm down on the playoff talk until November.

yeah it's a fucking death gauntlet this year. not too many gimme games besides the Arizona schools and the Tree.Fire_Marshall_Bill said:The Pac 12 is as good as it's been in 15 or 20 years. I'd calm down on the playoff talk until November.
will be surprised if anyone can get through it undefeated. -

QB and WR's are better this year. WR is much deeper beyond the top-2 guys. IMO, all three starters this year are better than Pettis. QB is light years better.Doogles said:Defense is nowhere near 2016 levels.

The schadenfreude of watching this place burn itself to the ground after a loss is the only thing that helps me manage my own desire to drink bleach when it inevitably happens.GrundleStiltzkin said: -

OL is better too. Penix got hit a little bit last week but he has all day to throw very often.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I honestly don’t think I would take Ross and Pettis over Rome, Polk, and Jalen.UW_Doog_Bot said:

Considering no injuries for each team, I think 2016 was more talented top to bottom (2023 slightly better WRs, slightly better Oline, and, well, QB) but the level of difference in QB play gives 2023 the edge.
-
Nope, Ross is the best individually but 2023 is better at WR2, WR3, WR4, WR5, etc. Ross and Pettis were both small and got bullied by Bama, this receiving core would not get pushed around by that secondary.EsophagealFeces said:

Penix throwing bombs to Ross would have been unfair though. -
I'll take 2023 at EDGE also even with a healthy Mathis but I agree here. I might take 2023's TE's too though that's a really strong group on both teams.whlinder said:Considering no injuries for each team, I think 2016 was more talented top to bottom (2023 slightly better WRs, slightly better Oline, and, well, QB) but the level of difference in QB play gives 2023 the edge.
2016's big advantage besides defense was in the return game. -
Listen, you are all getting hung up on 2016 wr vs. 2023 wr.dnc said:

I just want to see the 2016 team without a noodle armed giraffe losing 20yds on a scramble play.
Plus Penix throwing 60yd dimes to Ross would have been NFL level vs. College DB's. Would have been Culpepper to Moss levels of unfair.https://youtu.be/FTuNjsvPe4c?si=55mFZUdA2XCWNTos

Forget about Haener and Morris what would DeBoer have done with Eason?
I don't think Skinny would be hated like he is here
