Hop is definitely coming back. Jen Cohen is a great AD. Everyone says so.
-
One more year, maybe two. 6.3 million still owed on Hopkins contract and 5 million owed to Comcast. Used to be worried about tanking recruiting. With the portal we can watch Hopkins muddle through his last two years apologizing for home blowout losses and turn the whole roster over in a year with a new coach and start over without bottoming out. Iowa St went from less than 10 wins to a Sweet 16 in a year. It’s not real life like football, don’t worry.
-
I know Meah was always supposed to be the backup, but holy shit he got blown off the court.
Creamed by Stanford and then Coug at home. Probably lose to Colorado in the first round. Don't see Hop surviving that. -
Just save the money for football. I don’t even care any more.
-
Literally the number one question I get when Husky Hoops is brought up is if Hopkins stays or is gone. The sad part is he'd probably be gone if Jim Boeheim would just fucking retire. Recruiting seems meh. Roster management is shit. Let some dudes go.
-
-
No way Syracuse hires Hopkins if Boeheim retires, that would be beyond FS.
-
No no no no no. You got it all wrong. UW didn't support Hopkins. Going to a basketball school like Syracuse will help him a lot. He'll do great there.Miley_Cyrus said:No way Syracuse hires Hopkins if Boeheim retires, that would be beyond FS.
The answer when we? asked why in the fuck would UW hire Gilby after he failed at Cal -
I'd be shocked if Hop got fired ...
IF UW is heading to the B10 and that gets signed, sealed, and delivered then there's probably money found to be able to make that move
But if we're stuck in the PAC dreckfest and PAC hoops is basically a glorified West Coast Conference then why waste your money on a buyout -
Fuck they already have a replacement.

Won't matter anyway. We've done this exercise other times and most newbies have an unrealistic expectation of who would actually come to UW to coach. Our last coaching search resulted in a 30+ year assistant. I wouldn't be shocked if Shantey Alleggins in Portland took a pass hoping for St Mary's or Cal to call.Tequilla said:I'd be shocked if Hop got fired ...

UW just isn't a place where you're going to up your career. Blame the Pac1210 for ruining anything and everything sport. Pac10 doesn't even stack up against MWC or WCC once UCLA/USC leave(they might not even today) -
How many push-ups does Hop need to do to get another season?

I agree as long as the program is in the PAC-whateverFreeChavez said:

Boeheim was expected to step down before the 2018 season and hand the program over to long-time assistant coach Mike Hopkins. That plan blew up when Hopkins accepted the head-coaching position at the University of Washington.
The canceled succession plan cost Syracuse a key assistant and led to constant questions about when Boeheim would step away and what might come next for the program.
Fuck you and your sloppy tits, Jen.
Goddamnit. Fuck. Shit. Cunt.

The big ten sucks at basketball since MSU has taken a step back. They’ll get 9 bids and 8 of them will be gone by weekend 1. Just like the last couple of years.Tequilla said:

Keeping Hopkins to save $3 million doesn't make any financial sense because he is clearly a dead man walking. If he's around another year, it could set the rebuild back multiple years.
-
Not with the portal. A new coach can bring in four or five new guys and hit the ground running. Three years ago you would have been correct. It’s different now. Even Hopkins can still sell playing time to seniors around the country. What do they care if he’s fired next year?HFNY said:Keeping Hopkins to save $3 million doesn't make any financial sense because he is clearly a dead man walking. Kim is responding to every post calling for Hop to be fired with "How much money did you donate to the AD?"

Wouldn't be surprised if the better talent on this team aren't here next year -
It would be the right thing to do so, of course, Cohen announces that Hop is back for the next year.PurpleThrobber said:Down 13 vs Cuog at home with 7 1/2 mins left
Take all the screen shots you need.
In a times article the following is verbatim:
In her statement, Cohen made it clear she expects UW to return to compete for a Pac-12 championship and return to the NCAA tournament.
“The biggest thing for me is you don’t focus on those things,” Hopkins said. “Our standard is to be in the NCAA tournament every year. That’s what we think. That’s what we believe this program to be and that’s why we’re disappointed with the results that we got this last season.
“The important thing is that’s our standard. That’s what we focus on day to day. We focused on it all preseason and last season unfortunately we didn’t make it. We’re looking forward to the future for sure.”
No wonder his teams are fucking confused on offense.

Makes you wonder what the price point is for a guy like Shaka Smart. Or if there is even a price point. For a school that supposedly has a lot going for it, at least location wise, terrible results with some outliers here and there a long running theme. If I'm a modestly successful coach, I'm comfortable where I'm at, and it's a lateral move at best...

Jesus fucking Christ. Another year of bullshit.
UW AD Jen Cohen says she’s “disappointed” in 16-16 season and expects Huskies to “compete for Pac-12 championship and back in the NCAA tournament” next year.
Disappointed is for losers, Jen. There's not a chance in hell Hop is competing for a Pac 12 championship next year. There's not a chance in hell NCAA tourney is next year.
Pull your head out of your ass. Or Hop's lap.
Fuck.

We all knew the money wasn’t there to buy him out. Lake, Lakes assistant pool, the current assistant pool, the Comcast mess, and a season of no fans at the stadium. I think anyone who gives a shit about basketball has their money deeply invested into the new practice facility. It just wasn’t in the cards this year.
-
Yes but the problem is Jen is worthless at understanding leverage and contract negotiations which put her here in this spot. She gave hop and Jimmy iron clad contracts that were only advantageous to the coaches for buy outs and guarantees when they really hadn’t done much. And now we are stuck. How is hop paid over $3M? She is not qualified to run an athletic dept of this magnitude.theknowledge said:We all knew the money wasn’t there to buy him out. She had resisted where college sports were going for years with nil etc…
Horrible with contracts.
Wanted to keep Jimmy before he was forced out.
No foresight into conference realignment.

Absolutely. The lack of money for the buyout doesn’t excuse Cohen for that awful contract or any of the other retarded things she’s done. It just is what it is right now.AtomicDawg said:
