Could have a division of the has beens: Washington, Miami, Nebraska, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Tennessee.
The northwest rivalries, ease of traveling to an away game, tradition....this is what stings the most. On the other hand, the P12 has been trending down, home attendance not good, there are only a couple conference games that move the needle, so playing in a major conference might bring some life to seeing some big home games, and recruiting might improve. UW will need to get it's shit together for NIL though
As much as we love a lot of things about the tradition of college football, some things have been breaking down, and not just in the Pac-12, and committing to the TV money and the five programs that are rolling is about the only sure thing the sport has, and even that seems short term to me.
I remember talk about even some attendance issues at Alabama. I don't know if attendance issues will ever be resolved at USC and UW.
I personally think taking away the regionalism of the sport will cause long-term problems and the eventual creation of essentially a minor league will keep future generations from not getting into college football.
My biggest selling point would be just changing the name to the Saturday Football League and making the tagline "It's better to get drunk on Saturday."
It didn't start breaking down until it was decided it needed to be changed because simple minded people couldn't fathom a champion through polling. Arguing about rankings is one of the things that made it fun.
The downward spiral started with the BCS.

If UW and Oregon manage to get a pity invite to the B1G the PAC will fold or become the new and improved MWC by bringing in the top-4 teams from the MWC. Hopefully the LA schools signaled this was coming to UW prior to it leaking or that's a really bad sign.
I could see Oregon, but the second school would come out of Big 12. Baylor, Oklahoma State, maybe even Iowa State. They're not going to ask Washington to join. There not going to admit a team with a program and a fanbase in a death spiral. Even Utah probably has a better chance of getting in than Washington. We ain't such a big fish anymore.
On the flip side, if Oregon doesn't get an invite because of us, that'll be our biggest win over them in 20 years.

One of my beefs here is that part of the reason the Pac-12 sucks is because UCLA and USC have sucked so it's aggravating to have them blow up the Pac-12 partially because they can't build up their own shit. I'd be bitter as fuck if I was the Coug or Beav because they've both gotten the most out of their programs for the most part in recent history and they're getting left behind by hot girls who just self sabotaged for years. I'd throw UW in there as well.

The most succint and reasonable post in the thread. The two schools with a lot of downside should the Pac 12 as we know it fold are those two schools. Ducks hoping Washington crashes and DWAGs hoping Oregon crashes is natural, but hope and bidness are two different things. UW and Oregon will be fine wherever they land.
I, myself, simply abhor the demolition of old and geographical rivalries. It's an abortion that Oklahoma and Nebraska don't play each other every season. Just one example. One thing geography did in addition to maintaining tradition was make big OOC matchups exciting. I remember back when UCLA beat Nebraska ... that was a fucking huge moment for the Pac 10 at that time in part because Nebraska was Nebraska back then, and in part because those two schools playing each other was like finding a unicorn. It was unusual. They didn't belong together. Made it fucking exciting.
Now? Eh, I'm too fucking old. I still haven't accepted Nebraska in the Big 10 and think the old Big 8 should reconvene ... including Colorado. That's how out of it I am. I would also junk the playoff and go back to bowls and let people argue the champ.
They left for a pay raise of $70 million dollars more Per Year which over the course of the Fox TV deal will be close to a Billion Dollars in additional revenue.

89' to 03' is the Pac 12 I love and miss, and I think we need to realize that that Pac 12 was gone forever. The current Pac 12 even with the LA schools was never going to be a power again.
Sometimes life changes. Andy Bernard had the best line at the office finale “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.” That's how I feel now. We have a new reality. Oregon and Washington will join the Big 10, that's all but a given.

For me, it's simple. Big10 or bust. If UW ends up in the Big10, I actually think it could be a good thing. If UW ends up in the Big12 or there is some kind of merger between the remaining Pac teams and the Big12 or ACC or anything else, fuck it. The end has come.
