Shirley has been hyped since he was a recruit. He did have 8.5 sacks as a freshman. It's been downhill since. I don't think Wilcox ever liked his one dimensional game. He's strong, but he's really undersized at DE and could only beat shitty tackles by running past them. In a lot of games, he was non existent. I still wish we had him. I think he has some talent and would have provided good depth in case Kikaha or another DE gets injured.

Shirley had 18 career sacks in 3 years at UW. Crichton had 3 sacks in 4. Shirley is actually a legitimate Pac 12 player.

I never get too bummed when a player transfers. We have 85 scholarships for a reason, and we only get players for 4 years anyways. Who gives a fuck if we lose a pass rushing specialist who only had one year left to play? Frees up a scholarship.

Shirley would have likely come into his senior year as 4th string at his position that doesn't exist anymore (behind Kikaha, Littleton, and Farria)
Shirley was good at getting sacks when the opposing offensive line forgot to block him. Any contact though and UW might as well of had 10 players on the field -

I believe we are already under the 85 limit. Shirley is a senior, meaning his scholarship would be freed up after the season. Shirley leaving hardly matters, but it is the offseason, so at least it's something football related to talk about. Now losing Taylor Hindy is great because he was terrible and it will free up a scholarship. -
