He also says Puka and Spiker are definitely hurt and that there is no clear qb leader yet.
Also, the non-stop use of 'aggressive' and 'attack mode' is already fucking tiresome. Unfortunately the aggressive/attack mode ethos doesn't extend to Jimmy when it comes to staffing and recruiting. -

While I hate the practice of playing multiple guys in specific games, I also think coaches are generally stupid and they often make bad decisions when its a close decision. Ideally we would see these guys against Sac State or Hawaii instead of Cal, but one guy will step up and prove it in a game, or they won't. EWIWBI -
Just my own theory but I think they were planning on Sirmon being the guy but he has been too sloppy with decision making so now they are trying to figure out which if the other 3 will be the best game managerWoof said:

Simon seemed like the pretty clear #2 last year after Haener transferred. I assume that they got Sirmon to stick around by telling him that he would be the guy after Eason did his 1 and done. Fuck Pete for not giving him more game time in mop up duties. QB decision making is not something that improved in a Peterman offense and Sirmon was mistake prone to begin with.bananasnblondes said:

My USC homer dad is up visiting from Nevada, and we got to talking ball last night over some beers (before I shamed him to near-suicide in both Tetris and Dr. Mario...). He was curious who's playing quarterback for our Huskys this year, and I mumbled something about if you have four, you don't have one, blah blah, but he persisted, so I broke out the film.
Watching all four quarterbacks actually play football back to back was really confusing. Watching just the good plays (because it's a highlight reel), you'd think Sirmon isBarry SandersJack Lockner 2.0. Big, strong, arm cannon, and really athletic in the pocket, buying time, shrugging off sacks, etc. His film is SO much better than the other three that he has to be a Wonderlick zero to explain the ongoing competition. "Six interceptions against Woodinville, Dad. Six."
Thomson's film is the most instructive, as it's both the most recent and against college competition. The film says he's offensive player of the year in whatever shit league he played in, but the numbers don't wow you at all. Neither does the film. He throws from the side of his shoulder, so I'd be surprised if half his passes wouldn't be batted down at the line. He's decently mobile, but only in a Jake Browning sense, not Cam Newton. Arm strength looks below average. Suspicious lack of throws that stretch the field in a highlight reel (and everyone's talking about how much more "aggressive" Donovan is in 2020...). Being at his third school is obvious red flag.
Morris is Browning with a shittier team and against shittier competition. A lot of his highlight completions are to well covered receivers who go up and get it. You could take this is incredible accuracy or you could take this as poor decision-making. Overall, he looked alright.
We only watched Garbles' film for 30 seconds, as the intro told you all you need to know: 70% for over 5000 yards and 70:6 TD:INT, plus 500 rushing. Clearly this guy can play football.
Anyway, I was kind of dooging for Garbers, as I felt it was the only chance of the team having a QB who actually adds value this year. Everyone else is a known quantity who we'd have already seen if they were a difference maker. Garbers winning would imply he's actually good, not just "on the team longer."
I don't like the idea of just throwing in the towel and going with the placeholder transfer this year while waiting for Sam the savior next season. Lake needs to win NOW to avoid a big program setback down the road, as anybody following recruiting can see. There is too much to lose with local recruits to just punt on this season. I don't care if it sets you up for butthurt and transfers next season if Huard beats out a younger incumbent. Just fucking play the QB who is most likely to win and let next year sort itself out. Sounds like the two guys who would most imply that there's nothing special in the cupboards are leading the competition, so I'm fresh out of hope.

Listened to an interview with Lake, and when he was asked about Savvy he talked about how he is flashing and causing a lot of havoc in the backfield, but he needs to learn more technique.
The very next question he was asked how Puka is performing so far in camp. Lake’s only response was that he is really excited for Puka Nacua and he knows that Husky Nation is really excited about Puka Nacua and he is a great player who has a lot of energy.
So yeah, I’m now convinced Puka is hurt. -

- Because of San Fran area protocols, Cal can’t have meetings together, can’t have everyone in the locker room together, and they’ve had to split workouts and practices between two deeps and then everyone else
- The start has been pretty disjointed so far since the protocols are so much tighter than the rest of the Pac-12
- Throughout the offseason they couldn’t have more than 7 at first and then finally 11 players together at one time or pass the ball from one player to the next, so Garbers hasn’t been able to throw to receivers until recently
- Expects less shotgun with new OC, more two TE sets and a lot of sets with a fullback, predicated on a downhill pro-style rushing attack (aka the same shit UW is doing)
So basically, despite whatever hesitations we might have about UW going into Cal (we always lose to Cal!), they have really been put behind the 8 ball with how their camp has gotten started. -
