Having just been reminded of how badly the ATF fucked this up in Waco

This is partially why the Throbber was laughing his ass off as Antifa rolled into North Idaho last night. Randy Weaver held off a battalion of ATF agents for weeks at Ruby Ridge. One guy.WilburHooksHands said:This sounds like a bad idea:

black eye for the ATF imo

Bureaucrats hate been left out of the game. IRS has to be pissed too.

Imagine how the NOAA fishery officers are feeling right now

It's fucking terrifying that we have an acting DEA head who is actively trying to get involved in a situation that is so far removed from his agency's jurisdiction and purpose. Shea can get fucked.

You start digging into it and it’s staggering how many armed federal law enforcement departments.

The authorization for “covert surveillance” is special, but shout out to Swaye they specifically say they can share it with Tribal authorities!GreenRiverGatorz said:It's fucking terrifying that we have an acting DEA head who is actively trying to get involved in a situation that is so far removed from his agency's jurisdiction and purpose. The Throbber already did that once and posted the data. Thinking it was to refute Typhus Boy (RIP @CirrhosisDawg's) claim the Feds couldn't roll into Cali. Several hundred thousand or some such thing. Maybe not that big - but it was impressive how many forest rangers and ag inspectors have guns.GrundleStiltzkin said:You start digging into it and it’s staggering how many armed federal law enforcement departments.

There's enough federal armaments in California to fight a war. -
Maybe if some fuckwad leftist governors and mayors would denounce Antifa and enforce looting and vandalism and arson laws, it wouldn't come to this.GreenRiverGatorz said:It's fucking terrifying that we have an acting DEA head who is actively trying to get involved in a situation that is so far removed from his agency's jurisdiction and purpose. You saw what happened in Coeur d'Alene last night. The skinny jeans molotov cocktail throwers would turn tail and run back to mommy's basement.
There'll be no fight.

The other problem is the lefty states implemented no bail policies so for rioting, theft and vandalism etc they are simply cited out and they are back on the streets looting againPurpleThrobber said:

I don't care if Inslee and Durkin themselves are leading a Mad Max homeless RV brigade down 3rd Ave throwing molotovs at every cop car they see. There are about 20 other law enforcement levers to pull before you get the fucking DEA involved.PurpleThrobber said:

No, dickhead.
I'm for #teamdotherightthing and if that includes rolling out anything and everything available to squash the anarchists, so be it.

I'm a little more cautious in my preferred approach. There are plenty of federal law enforcement agencies that can handle this. If the feds decide that a few states aren't handling this on their own, and the National Guard isn't properly being dispensed by governors, then go ahead and call in the FBI. You know, the ones who are actually tasked with enforcing domestic terrorism.
But bring in the DEA and set further precedent that the federal government is willing to activate any and all law enforcement, regardless of that agency's purview? Fuck no. -

There aren't plenty of law enforcement agencies willing to handle it. Because the Jay Inslees and the Jenny Durkins of the world aren't doing shit because of all the feels. Fuck that. If they won't do the right thing, they need to have it done for them.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Not only is the Federal government willing to activate, they are obligated to do so. It's quite sad they have to - don't put words in my mouth that I like it - I don't. But it's certainly preferably to WTF has been transpiring the last week. Except in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene where the people themselves rose up (including the BLM protestors) and said "Fuck that". But you'll never see that reported outside the local area. Doesn't feed the beast.
The cockroaches scurry when the Orkin man shows up. So either the governors and mayors does the exterminating or its time to bring in the poison where they won't.

Let's take a step back for you. Going back to Wilbur's framing of this post, I think most can agree that the ATF getting involved in Waco was a massive abuse of federal law enforcement. Yeah, they had guns, but their main intent was to take down a religious cult. Way outside the ATF's purview, and 25 years later it's still considered one of the biggest miscarriages of federal law enforcement justice and one of the easiest examples of how shit can go wrong when you have overzealous federal cops following every justice boner they have.
The DEA getting involved in riots today would follow a lot of the same parallels, except they'd have even less justification to get involved than the ATF did back in Waco. What possible reason could the DEA have to jump into the fray? Marijuana possession of many of the rioters? Fuck that. -

Koresh went into town frequently. Including during the investigation. He could have been quietly arrested at any time which is what most LE advised. Alas it was budget time and the ATF wanted to get some and to show why they had this ridiculous amount of military firepower they had no idea how to use. Under the cover of trying to find the stash of weapons and pull a sting they didn't want Koresh grabbed. They wanted to go get him, bring him out, and show lots of guns grabbed. They had an informant and still didn't understand that the Vidians would fight back.
No element of surprise. Ham handed, Once federal agents get shot there is no resolution that ends well for Koresh and sadly the kids.
Its at best 50/50 responsibility. Koresh was a bad dude and probably insane. The ATF was plain stupid.
Back to the DEA -

So you are equating ATF to DEA? Vastly different. DEA does law enforcement every day. Real actual on the street stuff. All major narcotics related. ATF doesn't. HTHGreenRiverGatorz said:
