They were really high on Irvin and he was ahead of Gordon in their RS seasons. I'm really excited to see how he does.
Cam Williams seems like a good reserve or package safety to me. He does have a good head on his shoulders, but he's limited athletically. Asa I just failed to notice much but did see that he looked faster and more nimble than I expected. He'll be fine.
Kevin King mainly sucked for two years because he was playing safety. They took a feather light, 6'3" dude with long arms and 4.0 shuttle quickness and hardly gave him a look at cornerback. It was Lake or Pete's staff as a group that figured it out and he was an immediate force at corner/nickel in 2015. -
I noticed Asa. Bodes well

They arrived in his second year. Check your calendar, expert.dnc said:
King was awful for two years.TurdBomber said:
Agreed on Cam, but Asa had some flashes. But lets not forget how bad Kevin King looked his first year. The real growth in our DBs happens between years 1 & 2 on the field.RoadDawg55 said:
Asa and Cam both weren’t very good.Houhusky said:
I was pretty underwhelmed with a lot of Asa's play last year...RoadDawg55 said:
Our DB’s in the past all got way better their 2nd-3rd year in the program. All of these guys should be better.GrundleStiltzkin said:
He looked pretty soft and slow at times. I want my 6'3" safeties coming down and lighting guys up.
Yes, he was a true freshman... No Im not saying he cant get better, dont twist.
It wasn't until Pete, Pete and Jimmy arrived that he took off. -
LOL true enough.TurdBomber said:

It wasn't until they figured out to move him to CB then. -
Point was that guys like Asa and Cam, while getting great coaching from Jimmy, have those actual and invaluable D1 game experience minutes under their belt to reflect upon and know what to work on and fix for the next year. If you see any spark of potential in these types of players, there's a better than even chance Jimmy and Co will up their game and get solid performances out of them.dnc said:

I am very high on Cam and (especially) Asa going forward.TurdBomber said:

In case your Saturday isnt going horribly yet -
PFF has Molden and McDuffie as the top 2 returning cornerbacks in the Pac 12
-
-
It could also be pretty mediocre...bananasnblondes said:
Yeah, between Kyler, Asa, Cam, and McDuffie, we had 4 freshmen getting a lot of time at db positions last year. I think our db play is going to take a huge jump next year. Our defense, as a whole, could easily be one of the best in the country with who we have returning.RoadDawg55 said:

Tryon only had it figured out for ha
Mcduffie looked legit as a true freshman, the times he looked bad was when he was abused for his size. He isn’t ever going to be a hard hitter or physical CB but he looked like a future lockdown cover guy.bananasnblondes said:PFF has Molden and McDuffie as the top 2 returning cornerbacks in the Pac 12
Molden played really well last year, hope he gets to play that extra striker/nickel role and doesn’t have to split time between helping the shitty safeties and shitty LBers like Bryant did too much last year. -
McDuffie can hit. Taylor is by far our softest CB.Houhusky said:

Interesting they are rated this high with our linebackers and one of the safeties always being subpar to worthless for the entire year. For two guys in our secondary To be rated that high speaks to how bad those other positions were as they were nothing more than above avg on defense as a whole.bananasnblondes said:PFF has Molden and McDuffie as the top 2 returning cornerbacks in the Pac 12

The LBs were historically bad. A 5'10" slot corner led the team in tackles.AtomicDawg said:

The LBs had quite a few years of high school and some college under their belt and did everything possible to loose the games. Nuff said on that. -
Didn't Cam lead the team in INTs? He had his rough times but he also showed a nose for the ball. He'll be a good player for us
-
I'd have William's out there in packages. He does seem to see plays from the zone and put himself in position to get to the ball. I think he needs extra protection against good running games and to be kept out of man to man situations in space.BeerThirty said:Didn't Cam lead the team in INTs? He's a step slow for a college safety and doesnt seem to be a good open field tackler. Sure he can get better, but slower guys are always going to be slower guys. The fast guys work on their speed too. -
-
Good thing he got demoted

Lol whenever your coach refers to you as one of “those other guys” you have to know you aren’t going to be the starter.KrunkJuice said: -
If Garbers isn’t starting game one, he’s starting as soon as Sirmon or Morris play bad. It will happen. I’ve said it all along.

Happened upon this projection from Mel Kiper for the way too early draft stuff, figured I’d post it. Molten getting solid praise and projection. NFL evolving will work out well for Molden.
Hey Mel, not a pick six. Rather the int in the red zone that led to Ahmed’s 89 yarder against USC. I was there!
Also, Cade was listed as Kiper’s 5th best TE.

I think Molden might be in the top 13 players in college football this year but he won't be in the top 13 in the NFL draft.
-
Your athleticism has to be in a special tier of elite for you to go top 15 as a 5'10" corner. Molden is really fucking good, and plenty athletic, but I don't think he's in that tier.dnc said:I think Molden might be in the top 13 players in college football this year but he won't be in the top 13 in the NFL draft.
