A funny little story from my dad yesterday

He grew up in Longview, WA and played left guard on the JV team for RA Long High School.
During his junior season he sprained his ankle and was out a few weeks. He was at home listening to the radio broadcast of the RA Long vs. Kelso game. He was #57, and somehow his name got on the varsity roster. As he listened to the broadcast, an RA Long linebacker wearing #57 was having a huge game. So dad heard a constant litany of... "Ron Johnson on the tackle... Five yard loss on the play, the tackle by Ron Johnson... Ron Johnson with a big hit there on the quarterback ... Ronnie Johnson having himself a breakout game today!"

Didn't read, chinned because of how far you've fallenDerekJohnson said:I had dinner with dad last night and we watched the Clemson-Ohio State game at a bar and grill. I asked him about his biggest moment of fame playing football. He told me a story I'd never heard before.

DeJa Vu on South Tacoma Way isn't what I would call a bar and grill?DerekJohnson said:I had dinner with dad last night and we watched the Clemson-Ohio State game at a bar and grill. I asked him about his biggest moment of fame playing football. He told me a story I'd never heard before.

My dad did 30 years at Weyerhaeuser during and after his time at UW. The Longview boomer formula I guess.DerekJohnson said:

Damn that was a tough question. The 91' Rose Bowl was special because we were there with his brother and my cousin. For reasons that had little to do between them, they almost didnt speak or see each other until he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. I was a senior and had like $2,000 to my name. My best friends were going to live in CO to be ski bums for a year but I didnt think $2K would be enough so I bet it all on the Dawgs to cover. I had fucked up a lot in HS and college so was nervous telling him my plan right before kickoff. He didn't judge me and rooted hard for the Dawgs to cover for me. I'll never forget Hayden Fry having his QB hurl 50 yard bombs into the end zone which would have ruined my cover. The first thing he said to me as time expired was "You're going to Colorado." He and his brother reconciled in the end and the families have become relatively close again. I probably learned more about my dad from his college rugby buddies than I ever did from him.DerekJohnson said:
