Softy questioned Pete 6 yrs ago

The right question would have been is he able to coach on game day with the big boys.
It's still the question to be asking after six years. We probably have the answer by now. The chart is a massive fail. Can he go to Bellichick's 101 class on how to use a timeout correctly?
I guess Cal is considered a big boy??
I mean Pete made a comment about how hard Eason can throw the ball!!! My nightmare continues.

Pete needs to take a step back and look long and hard at himself as a coach. Will he? No

Pete will never divorce his process.BeerThirty said:Pete needs to take a step back and look long and hard at himself as a coach. Will he? No

Same shit Pete offense since his last two years at BSU.
Nothing has changed with it through multiple OCs, QBs, etc. -
Skinny can throw the ball, but the receivers can find open daylight the OC can’t diagnose a defense and Pete won’t change this shit offense

maybe it is time for Pete to go back to the Mountain West. He seems to be stuck in that mindset. Give Lake a shot at HC. At least he has shown that he'll play the young guys. Mistakes happen but the talent is there.

Inspiration > rote execution (i.e., "process"). Cal played inspired, even though the team with lesser talent. They had swagger. Weaver promised a victory (though it occurred Sunday instead of Saturday due to the weather delay) and then played from that belief, as did his teammates. Folding under pressure like a house of cards has become at least a twice a season occurrence (once in conference play and in big bowl games) under Petersen. Play calling is insane at times, using the definition for insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Pete's process is exposed. He was considered an innovator and giant slayer (big bowl victories against power 5 teams) while at BSU. Not so much now. He's become a bed shitter. His tendencies are known and were exploited by Wilcox. He needs to adapt. 2016 was the blue print, if he will just apply it. It was the best of Sark type talent (skill guys with swagger) and competent offensive play schemes and calling (Tedford was a consultant - Smith and Hamdan underlings). Petersen needs to turn the offense over to a competent OC if he wants to have an elite program. This likely won't happen since it would require Pete to divorce his process, which is his identity.jecornel said:

It's depressing because Pete is pressing his process.jecornel said:

I suspect there is a higher probability Lake would hire a competent OC. Lake is hungrier and not wedded to an outmoded process.BeerThirty said:maybe it is time for Pete to go back to the Mountain West. He seems to be stuck in that mindset. Give Lake a shot at HC. Like if Pete really wanted to be effective with his process, he would coach it as perfecting and building muscle memory so that you can execute when you're in a bloodthirsty rage on Saturday. The whole being a robot thing just doesn't work for humans.Homebrew_Dawg said:

Rage has been eliminated by the process. Haven't seen it since Pete neutered Azeem Victor. What a despicable tragedy.Mad_Son said:

Peterman is still seeking approval from the NCAA and FDA to implant his players with computer chips.

We all need to have a big swig of Listerine and move the fuck on from this debacle. For better or worse, we're fucking stuck with Pete until he stops winning Pac titles less than 33.33 % of the Tim.

Yup, exactly the problem.Homebrew_Dawg said:

Robots don't care about winning, they don't dig deep, they just do what they are told. Maybe Pete shouldn't tell them to run routes on Saturday, but should just tell them to win and see if the process taught them how to care and do that. I fully believe I care more than most of the players. I'm not sure a loss causes many of them to lose sleep. -
Read this out loud. lol. Until he stops winning titles. Big problems we have.YellowSnow said:We all need to have a big swig of Listerine and move the fuck on from this debacle. For better or worse, we're fucking stuck with Pete until he stops winning Pac titles less than 33.33 % of the Tim.

After the Saturday/Sunday shit show, I have decided I will not attend a game at HS for the second season in a row. It's not worth the time it takes to endure the drive through the Portland and Seattle areas traffic from Salem. This season, I only plan to go to the Beaver game in Corvallis. -
I have a hard fucking time believing these kids don't take the losses seriously.Mad_Son said:

This game was bullshit and painful to watch. But I can think of plenty of Husky team with supposedly way more "fire" in their belly's that had just as shitty and painful of defeats at home or on the road. -

I can drunkenly walk home from Husky Stadium in less than an hour from any shit show. No need to give up just yet.Homebrew_Dawg said:

Why the fuck is Lake getting a pass here? His secondary was shit on Saturday and the defense was an abomination considering how bad Cal's offense is. Cam Williams has so far been the worst starter we've seen in the secondary since 2015.BeerThirty said:maybe it is time for Pete to go back to the Mountain West. He seems to be stuck in that mindset. When your field goal guy and kickoff specialist are the best players on the day, you know you've hit shitshow status.
Offense sucked. Defense couldn't step up. Playcalling in the red zone was no improvement from last year. Clock management was lacking. Adjustments were negligible. This program is Tier 2. It's recruiting is not Tier 1. The fan base is not Tier 1. We are pretenders to playing with the big boys. There is no reason to take this program seriously until two specific things happen. 1) Pete hires an OC and gives him full control. 2) Pete starts firing coaches who don't perform their job to championship level based on recruiting/development. I have zero faith he will do either one. Until then there is no reason to put money or hope into this program winning anything of importance. -
Because everyone is crying out to play the young talent. Then when they shit the bed they ask why they are playing.GreenRiverGatorz said:

Lake gets a pass because of recruiting
The defense has suffered since he took over play calling -
That's a one game take. Lake's defense and Gaskin were good enough to win a conference championship in 2018.RaceBannon said:Lake gets a pass because of recruiting

ATBS, the defense was not good enough Saturday. -

2017 Stanford was not a great defensive showing. They also got left on the field way too long for 2.5 quarters by a shittastic offensive effort.RaceBannon said:

As I said yesterday, I more concerned for the defense for this season than I am the offense. D rotates much more so we?ve seen the depth, or lack there of. -
It's hard to quantify, but the defense doesn't "seem" as dominant starting with last year's unit. The numbers don't really bear that out, but it definitely doesn't have the same ferocity that 2015 and 2016 had.RaceBannon said:

not giving him a pass, but he is doing what Pete isn't. He is putting the talent on the field. They made mistakes but they are young and they'll get it. If they don't, he has shown that he will put others out there. Pete doesn't do thatGreenRiverGatorz said:

this Hawaii game will be VERY important for the DBs. They need to really turn it around. We'll see
