And yet Jake Browning led the sqwad to 14 losses in four years despite the defense never allowing more than 35 points.

I would make the Utah 2018 series my closing argument.

Match 1: Browning passes for 155 yards, 1 TD and 1 god awful INT (the gif of which was recently making the rounds.)

Defense bails Browning out by forcing three turnovers to give him the lead and then stopping the Utes on downs their final three drives after Browning and special teams gave Utah the following starting field positions:

    WASH 11
    WASH 28
    WASH 42

Match 2: Despite the fact that Browning has clearly demonstrated an inability to beat Utah's defense he is inexplicably tasked with throwing the ball 33 times. He goes for 5.7 ypa and an INT.

Inside the Utah 30 he was 3/9 for 11 yards and one INT leading to one FG of production for the offense in eight drives of futility.

Defense held Utah to 3.6 yards per play but must have realized towards the end of the 3rd quarter in a 3-3 game that merely stopping Utah wouldn't be enough for Browning to win the game. Last 4 drives?

    INT-TD
    INT
    INT
    DOWNS
    The prosecution rests.

    Slight poont of disagreement.

If WE (Petersen) need the same amount of talent out of high school as schools like Georgia, UT, Ohio state, Penn St, LSU, FSU, Bama, Michigan, or Oklahoma to beat them, then WE are never going to beat them.

Petersen has had enough talent on his teams here to get at least one surprise, big win, upset that defined his time at the much less “talented” Boise.

The defense has regularly set the table for Pete and he still fucked it up by fielding some of the worst offenses AND special teams in the country.

The fact that he hasn’t won once against a big name team or when the pressure was on should worry people at least a little bit.

At this point Petersen could still just be the other side of the same Bellotti coin. Another 10-3 year without a meaningful win is a step back.

Skimmed through to the UW part:

UW has added the most consistent talent over the last 4 years, and he does not expect that to change. It has just been an incremental addition and steady recruiting.Expect continued talent acquisition on Montlake.

He says UW is the best example of what all fans hope for but that rarely happens. To flip a program in a short time, typically you have to kill your first two FULL classes. Washington's first two classes under Petersen were not elite. He has been incrementally increasing his Blue Chip talent. Washington is the prime example of a team who had to win first, and recruits started to take notice. That is what fans expect: win and recruits will show up. Rarely is that the case, but Petersen has made it true.

Penn State as the opposite example who has the same type of percentage. Franklin got a lot of hype and got a lot of talent in before he started winning. Oregon is starting to do the same thing under Cristobal. Insane recruiting hype without the necessary winning.

He does not expect Washington to go anywhere. They will continue winning, being consistent, and the recruits who care about winning will continue to notice and sign on.

Also to note, Bud Elliot is not saying that this ratio will predict who wins the National Title, just that the champion will come from this list of teams with 50% plus. He's been waiting for a team to bust it, but it hasn't happened.

The only way he expects a team could do this would be that they are already in the 40% of Blue Chips, develop talent well, and then get a transcendent QB. Oregon almost did it with Mariota, and Clemson had Watson (but had cleared the 50% mark).

Similar thought for who in the 50% could beat the 80% teams. Get solid talent in the two deeps. Develop talent extremely well. Get a transcendent QB.

Sound like any team you root for?
