Is that purple? Where's the pant stripes?RaceBannon said:This SI was kept by our World Book Encyclopedias on the shelf by the fireplace thus signifying the great importance of it. I also had the press book from the UW Minnesota Rose Bowl that my folks went to without me. That is my first memory

My first real memory is the Ohio State game in 1986.

ah, right. Wayne Cody.DawgWagonDan said:Meek said:probably 6-7 years old and my first memory is sitting with my dad watching the Don James Coaches Show on KOMO (with the fat host?) where he breaks down all the plays. At first I thought it was boring, but then I understood the game and enjoyed it each week.
For some reason, all I could think of was that Reveen did a Husky show.

There was a line from early Almost Live, "... and the fog was thicker than Wayne Cody's midsection." Weird how stupid stuff like that sticks in the brain.DawgWagonDan said:Meek said:probably 6-7 years old and my first memory is sitting with my dad watching the Don James Coaches Show on KOMO (with the fat host?) where he breaks down all the plays. Back in the late 70s I believe. Was playing Oregon St. It was a game early in the year so it was still pretty warm. UW decided to trot out an actual dog sled, pulled by someone's pet dogs. They would run it around the track whenever UW scored. UW scored somewhere in the neighborhood of 63 points. I think they killed 2 of the dogs. The sled was moving much slower by the second half.
That was the last I saw of the actual dog sled. The Husky Helmet took over soon after. -
Bruce King did Komo after Keith Jackson
Cody was 710 Kiro. A sports radio pioneer to be honest. They started him to pimp the Seahawks broadcasts -
Not even slightly. Might be able to find the pic if my mom feels like looking around sometime thoughPurpleThrobber said:

The cheerleader, not Cody - though he was a strapping handsome young buck. Amirite, @Dennis_DeYoung ? -
My first real memories were of the 84 team and the controversy with BYU. We had mormon neighbors who were huge BYU fans, and my dad and grandfather talked enormous amounts of shit to them. First game I saw in person was in 91 against Arizona. Their QB (George Malauulu) nearly died that day. Seeing that defense in person was something else.

Oddly enough we hosted them in 90 as well and I was also at that massacre - second game I ever attended.
90 San Jose State was my first. -

Did Arizona punt on third down once? -
I was 10 so I don't really remember. Wouldn't shock me though.GrundleStiltzkin said:

I think it was the Whammy in Miami. I remember Bob Sapp and really liking Richard Thomas. First game I remember going to was the tie against USC in 95. I’m pretty sure I had been to a game or two before that, but I can’t remember which games.

My first memory of Husky Football was crying hysterically as a young child in the 80s because my grandpa, dad, and uncle would be yelling at the TV so loud and violently, while watching Husky games at Gramps' house.
My uncle took me to my first game at Husky Stadium, but we've had trouble figuring out exactly which game it was... sometime in the mid to late 80s. He attended a game at Husky Stadium on his wedding day.
I understood from a young age that Husky Football was serious business. -

Fuck all of you that were at UW in the early nineties. That must have fucking ruled.
I got 0-12. -
It did. You have no idea how much fun it was. Of course it was also a curse. Been waiting for almost 30 fucking years to get back to that level of play.Gladstone said:Fuck all of you that were at UW in the early nineties. That must have fucking ruled.

My dad keeps a vcr player specifically to watch the Whammy in Miami tape. We watch it at least once a year.RoadDawg55 said:I think it was the Whammy in Miami. I can't identify a single memory as my single 1st memory of Husky football. I was drunk and stoned a lot during my first year as a student at UW, thus many of the memories all blur together or aren't in chronological order. Even though I attended most games and sat with friends in the student section, we normally had to read the paper the next day to see what happened.
A few of the memories that stand out from that 1984 season include:
- smuggling in pints of bourbon taped to our calves under our army surplus wool trousers
- pushing some Phi Gamma Deltas out of the way when they tried telling us that some seats were reserved
- throwing food at the cheerleaders (one of them was from my high school -- inglemoor)
- smoking bowls in the stands and trying to be discreet about it
- wondering why the husky cheerleaders weren't very attractive
- grabbing a girl that was passing in front of our row and then body-passing her up the stands
- barking as loud as we could but not always at the appropriate times
- leaving the stadium after the game and walking across campus in a huge pack to Pagliaccis on the Ave
- waking up in the Pagliacci's stall with the manager yelling at me that others had to use the bathroom too
- my friends dragging me out of Pagliacci's before I caused a scene
- my friends heading to a party but me deciding that I'm going to take the bus back to our apartment because I was too drunk
- waking up a few hours later in the bushes next to the bus stop with some chick giving me a weird look
Pretty good year of memories all together.
I think we won some games too.

@Baphomet, the body-passing of girls, pot-smoking, and throwing food (at the cuog marching band) are a few things I remember from the 1987 Apple Cup. The student section definitely was a lot more fun back then. It had tamed down considerably in a three-year span... was a lot more docile when I got to campus in 1990.

No curse. It was the UW Admin. not having the balls to support their legendary HC. The fact they allowed the Pac-10 to pile it on top of us is unconscionable. Shame on them.PurpleBaze said:

I meant curse in a sense that once you get a taste of watching a team like that and it gets fucked up (regardless of the reason), it's painful to watch the shitty product on the field. Versus if your? team was shitty from the get-go (like the cuog) and the standards have always been low.digits said:

Anthony Russo catching the TD from Lockner against tOSU to go up 7-0 was my first game memory.GrundleStiltzkin said:My first real memory is the Ohio State game in 1986.

1989 UW vs. USC on TV. Asked my Dad why the QB had a girl name.

The salmon colored suit was my favorite fashion choice for coach. Show was hosted by Bruce King I think. As a gay man, the Husky Fever intro song that they sung to Boogie Fever really resonated with me as well. Sometimes that song just sticks in my head and won't quit. Husky fever, with another touchdown! Husky fever, you know its going around!Meek said:probably 6-7 years old and my first memory is sitting with my dad watching the Don James Coaches Show on KOMO (with the fat host?) where he breaks down all the plays. As for the first game I remember, that would be the 1985 Orange Bowl just for the party that happened for the game. My dad was lit. I will never forget that whole day. The first game I remember actually caring about was actually the 1987 Independence Bowl against Tulane. Chris Chandler was a big deal in my house because he was a Snohomish co. kid (my dad and hence me always pulled for the local north end kids) and it was a bowl game at the end of kind of a shitty year. I was 8 so any bowl game would have actually been a big deal to me. We won a boring game against Mac Brown and the mighty Tulane green Wave 24-12 I think. The first game I went to was the 1991 apple cup. I went with my friends family and they were shocked and amazed that little Knowledge could state the number, height, weight and name of every player on the team. I have long since burned that information and most of my 20's out with liquor and drugs.

Watching the ‘78 Rose Bowl on TV with my Dad. I was about 5. #old
